LittleHurt05
If the Sox has signed Cespedes, do you think they would take down the WS banner to put up a 2013 Home Run Derby Winner banner?
ewokpelts
Guys, Oakland outbid EVERYONE. It's paying off for them, but it could have easily been a disaster. s*** happens, you gotta move on to the next thing....
witesoxfan
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 06:34 AM) If the Sox has signed Cespedes, do you think they would take down the WS banner to put up a 2013 Home Run Derby Winner banner? Well yes, but they would put those banners up all around the stadium too. And they would rename the stadium. "Yoenis Cespedes 17 Home Runs at the Derby Memorial Stadium"
SoxAce
Watch him go on a long power drought after the derby now.
Balta1701
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) Watch him go on a long power drought after the derby now. He's been in a long power drought, over 70 at bats since his last homer. He's hitting like .225 on the season, Adam Dunn territory.
Jake
And he's a free agent after the conclusion of the contract. That's what Oakland did to get him in the fold. Fairly risky endeavor, considering they otherwise would have controlled him until 2018.
harfman77
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 08:42 AM) Guys, Oakland outbid EVERYONE. It's paying off for them, but it could have easily been a disaster. s*** happens, you gotta move on to the next thing.... I believe that Oakland wasn't the highest bidder, rather they structured the contract in a way that would allow him to reach free agency sooner than any other team. He signed a four year deal and then will go to free agency rather than having to go through arbitration. He has been a disappointment though, relegated to LF and hitting at a pretty low contact rate. He probably could have used some time in the minors to adjust to American baseball.
elrockinMT
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) He's been in a long power drought, over 70 at bats since his last homer. He's hitting like .225 on the season, Adam Dunn territory. That's just it. He showcased well in NY for the HR derby but overall when it counts he has been struggling. But, Adam Dunn has been working that average up and Cespedes down

southsider2k5
The Sox were in the bidding in the sense that they made a bid. In no other way were they really in the running for Cespedes.
