You can never have too many bullpen arms. It still doesn't clinch a pennant.

The most basic thing that everyone should understand about baseball is that the best, deepest, most complete team isn't guaranteed squat, not even in the regular season. I have no clue how anyone could believe otherwise after having paid any attention whatsoever to this game.

They don't like to use Benoit on back to back days because of any number of shoulder surgeries he's had.

Benoit isn't available today for that reason.

With Crain still hurt, I could see teams now valuing a young, healthy Reed.

I'd do Reed for Castellanos in a heartbeat if at all possible...

I know this is PIPE DREAM stuff here...but can you imagine the future of out infield if we pulled these deals off.

Det: Castellanos (Reed, ?)

Stl: Adams (Lexi, Crain + ?)

AZ: Owings+ (Peavy)

or however you make these work...how would that infield sound for the future with Gordo?

So if you swing the first deal of Rios you can include whatever piece you get back in one of these deals or not. I know this sounds XBox-y...but possible.

You have to figure at least 1 of those 3, maybe more, winds up not working out.

No matter the particulars -- hatred for Detroit should not factor in.

It would make sense to not want to make a rival way better.....but this is Reed we're talking about here. A closer who is no dominant closer at that.

So if the deal is right...really beneficial for us...............sure, you do it. Just purely disliking DET is not a factor.

I just don't really want anything in their system except Castellanos, and I don't think he would be on the table for a RP like Reed.

Then there continues to be zero reason to trade Reed. The only reason to trade a closer this far away from free agency is if someone knocks your socks off. I keep saying, the response to any trade of Reed should be "wow, I can't believe team x gave up that guy for a closer".

I agree with you. I think DET is a bad fit for us here.

The reason people keep bringing them up is that they seem like a team with a real bullpen need who might overpay for a closer, and they have a guy (Castellanos) who might well be a guy you'd say "They seriously gave him up just to get a closer"?

Yeah, it'll probably never happen, but man wouldn't it be nice just to finally steal one of these exciting young guys for once, a la Wheeler for Beltran? This season sucks, we need something to be happy about.

Tigers trade for Jose Veras from the Astros, so /thread

Not a big deal IMO, I doubt we were gonna deal with the Tigs anyway. Unless we get a lot for Reed, I am fine with him sticking around.
