rneumann33
Soemthing has to change with this team and soon or there will be no one in the seats. I have very little confidence in Ventura and Hahn right now. Changes should have been made earlier in the year when the team started down their path of distruction. I also have a feeling that Hahn will not make many trades. I wouldn't be surprised if Crain is the only one that is traded at the deadline. IMO I think the front office beleives this team can win next year with a few tweaks to the roster. I do not think that at all. It is time for a face lift. I am all for a total rebuild and I would support this organization if that is the route they take. I just wish they would make some decisions as to what path they are going to take. I do not think it is fair to the fans that they are not indicating which way they are going to go in the future. Baseball has changed, teams are starting to see that handing out huge contracts for many years is not working. Building through the draft and minor league system is the way to go. Look at Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Oakland. You could even throw Texas in there to a point. Thoughts? Agree or disagree?

There's nothing you gain by waving the white flag in May. I had a feeling at that point that the team wasn't going to turn it around and start winning, but if they do then you can look for ways to improve. If not, you are still taking calls and piecing together packages for guys you'll consider. There's been no problem waiting until July to make these moves. At some point very soon, the Sox will start making moves. There's literally no point in keeping Lindstrom either. They'll trade him, even if it's just for a guy. Oh, and I absolutely believe the Sox can win next year. If they make some creative moves and add some players offensively, the Sox have a pitching staff that will shut opponents down like crazy. This year feels quite similar to 2004 and especially 2007, and people wanted a full rebuild at that point. The Sox won the division the following season. We can very well not put all the chips in next year, hope for a stroke of luck that makes us compete, but otherwise prepare to make a run in 2015. No need for extended rebuilds, it's a silly strategy that is especially silly in our market with our payroll.
2nd_city_saint787
2013 in a nutshell was the stat Hawk brought up earlier this week. Last year the Sox gave up 30 unearned runs all year, this year they're already at at 44+(Don't remember when he said it but at the time he said they had 41 and I recall at least 3 unearned runs yesterday)....That is an incredible statistic. If this team remembers how to play D and they add some thud to the middle of the lineup I have no doubts about the Sox being able to win next year. The need to add several offensive players if they plan to compete. I agree they have a good pitching staff and a desent pen but the offense needs a face lift and I am not sure that can be done in one offseason. greg775
Is the main reason the Sox reek the simple fact we can't lift and pull the ball over the fence anymore? Not to mention the fact we can't catch the ball? But isn't it true the ol' lift and pull philosophy has gotten us again? This time we simply can't hit enough home runs to beat anybody? Our victory formula offensively remains the HR ball and our power has been zapped?

The only team that has scored less runs this year is the Marlins.

2nd_city_saint787
Don't wanna start a new thread for this so seeing as this is somewhat relevant to this subject I'll post it here. By relevant I mean the 2013 offense in a nutshell has falied to be consistent up and down the lineup. I wanna have some fun with sample sizes.... Our hitters best months in a projected batting order... 1. De Aza- .296/.366/.444 2. Keppinger- .317/.388/.400 3. Rios .277/.352/.511 4. Dunn .274/.402/.589 5. Tank .303/.364/.517 6. Gilaspie .311/.368/.492 7. Beckham .303/.337/.447 8. Lexi .281/.316/.382 9. Phegley .219/.215/.406 How nice would it have been if these guys consistently put up those numbers? With this pitching staff that's a contending team for sure. Edited August 2, 2013 by scs787
