Charlotte remains in the IL playoff hunt as well, currently sitting 2.0 games behind Durham in the South

Division and 2.5 games off the Wild Card pace. The performance of MIKE PORZIO last Thursday in Richmond helped Charlotte’s cause as the left-hander tossed eight scoreless innings in his only start of the week. The Norwalk, CT resident limited Richmond to just a pair of hits in the win, fanning six Bravesbefore giving way to Jake Meyer who worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the 5-0 shutout. The outing

was Porzio’s longest of the season, and ended a personal two-game losing skid. Mike’s 106 strikeouts lead all Charlotte pitchers and his 8 wins and 124 innings pitched rank second on the staff. The 31-year-old Porzio is in his third season with the White Sox organization and the Knights after signing with the club as a free agent in January of 2001. He won six games for the Knights in each of the past

two seasons and made 32 appearances for the parent club last year. The former Villanova standout began his career in the Cubs’ system and also pitched in the Braves and Rockies’ chains before joining the White Sox organization. He made his Major League debut with Colorado during the 1999 season.
