Balta1701
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) It's probably been mentioned, but does anyone know how was he viewed in relation to Puig and Cespedes before the latter two had their success in MLB? Jonah Keri in 2012 on Abreu..."He just might be the best hitter in the world". (winds up saying he's more likely to wind up about Ryan Howard's level). Vance Law
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) There are some people who question this, saying he might be like a .250 30 homer, .800 OPS guy, which is better than your run of the mill 1B but not by much. Right. League average 1B put up a .776 OPS last year. An Adam Laroche. And what does a guy like that get on the FA market (requiring a loss of draft pick)? 12 million a year. Granted, Laroche isn't locking up a 6 year commitment, but Abreu is only 26. $10 -$12 million for a league average firstbaseman's 26 - 32 years is a pretty reasonable deal. Obviously there's a small chance he's a total bust, but I doubt it. Some chance he's a star, but if not, the deal is fine for some who's just solid. Jose Abreu
Abreu/Avisail as 4-5 would be deadly! Get it done Hahn!!! Hopefully he is slightly better than a Cespedes/Puig combo.

lasttriptotulsa
QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) Has poor to average defense but most expect him to play DH. Seems like a lot of scouts vary in their opinion in his defense. Some say strictly DH while others say he would be an adequate 1B. One scout even went so far as to say he would surprise people with his athleticism at 1B.

Jose Abreu
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) Adam Dunn is probably the odd man out in that scenario. But what do we do with him? You don't just bench $56 MM
NorthSideSox72
If the Sox sign Abreu, Konerko is likely gone (except as maybe a coach, but I don't see that happening right away). Hard to believe they'd trade Dunn (which would mean eating some of his salary) to make room for PK.

Jose Abreu
Now some Astro source says they're back in it. Edit: It's just some Twitter guy who claims to have "connections." He did predict the Brett Myers to ChiSox trade last year three days beforehand, though. Edited October 17, 2013 by ChiSoxFan05
RockRaines
Its a realistic problem because from the outset the Sox have been in on this kid hard. They firmly believe that they are going to land him if the bidding doesnt get super outlandish. I've mentioned this in PM's since the beginning of this guy becoming available. The Sox knew it before it was official and have made plans to land him.
