This all sounds very promising. Just like it did when I first heard Abreu might be a free agent. Makes too much sense not to be the highest bidder. White Sox have the money, and the big need for a bat like his. Too bad he isn't a lefty bat. But I'll take it.

Yeah, at this point, it doesn't matter what side he bats on so long as he's good

Good on you White Sox. Get what could be a legit power bat, won't cost a draft pick, and should be a part of the next White Sox core even if the team likely won't be competitive next season. More smart signings and trades please.

Depends on how that OPS gets put up. If it is lower in the first half of the year as he figures out MLB, but improves as the season goes along, I'll be OK with that as this is pretty much considered a rebuilding year.

If reports are to believed, he'll get the largest contract in franchise history. They need him to hit from day 1.

If they're looking to put a competitive club on the field next year, you're 100% right. If all your other statements about how the Sox won't be competitive for years are right, then they could live with him putting up 2 years of a sub-.700 OPS as long as he figures it out and hits 40 HR the next couple years.

Abreu and Salty/McCann and maybe a couple trades for bats (Trumbo? Lawrie?) would be ideal. Mix that in with the 5 million Sox will have in International money and the #3 pick with early picks in rounds could make a huge difference for this organization.

Fair enough, but this guy has to make their scouts look good, the sooner the better to help restore faith among the fan base. It's been a while since they were right about a hitter.

that would give us a great chance to instantly turn the franchise around ala boston this year
