cabiness42
It doesn't sound like a lot, but the record for consecutive team games with a save is 6, held by Rod Beck (Cubs, 1998); Eric Gagne (Dodgers, 2003) and tied last night by Addison Reed. It takes a lot to get a streak this high: 1) The team has to win six games in a row 2) All six games have to be close enough to warrant a save opportunity 3) There has to be a day off on the schedule (none of the record holders pitched more than three consecutive days) 4) The closer has to actually convert all six saves Now that Reed has pitched 3 days in a row and 6 of the last 7, is there any chance Robin gives him a shot tonight if there is a save opportunity? If he was 34, not 24, I'd be down for him pitching tonight. But he has way too much value to the Sox to risk his arm like that.

Quin
Reed is the most interesting piece to me going forward. Is he traded for a young bat or extended, or both?
Rowand44
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) Reed is the most interesting piece to me going forward. Is he traded for a young bat or extended, or both? I'd love to see him traded for a young bat. That being said, I'm not sure you're going to be able to find a good enough one for a closer, even a young, cost friendly one like Addy. If you can't find the right deal you obviously hang on to him but ideally you find a trading partner that's willing to give up a good young position player. southsider2k5
Reeds value isn't going anywhere, so if there isn't an incredible deal, you keep him.
maxjusttyped
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) Reeds value isn't going anywhere, so if there isn't an incredible deal, you keep him. Closers typically don't have long shelf lives, and his velocity is already declining. If they get a good deal, my guess is he's traded. I don't know what it means, because he definitely looks perfectly healthy to me. It's been stated that the dip in his velocity is intentional. He feels he has better movement and command if he takes a mile or two per hour off his pitches. Watching him pitch this year, I believe it to be the right approach. I hated his fastball last year. Unless you can bring it at 97 or above consistently, you are better off going with a 2 seamer.
Dick Allen
He is striking out more, walking less and giving up fewer hits than last year. Would you rather he throw 100 and strike out less, walk more and give up more hits? Screw results. Look at the gun.
