Pretty impressive that AJP is batting fifth for the Texas Rangers. Obviously he's not washed up. It's apparent Sox made a big mistake in letting him go. One could make a case that our record would be better if we had a decent catcher who could hit.

Yea, 20 games under .500 would have made this season so much better than 22 games under .500

I want to see 100% standing ovation for these guys, yes, even Rios.

Standing for Rios wouldn't make much sense. Unless they show some video montage of AJ and Rios together and people want to give them a standing ovation. I mean if our fans give Rios a standing ovation, fine. It would show we have nice fans. But it would absolutely make zero sense.

AJ, however, who has a ring. That makes sense.

Intangibles count. Also, one less black hole in the lineup. I can argue we'd be in the race if he was still here. Not sure I want to argue that yet, but I could argue that.

The man is batting fifth for the Texas Rangers. He is their starting catcher. We have had zero production from catcher which is 1/9 of the lineup we put out there every day.

We'll never know what effect he had on the intangible parts of winning. My guess is he had a GREAT effect.

Let's say if AJ was here we would have had NO loafing and MUCH BETTER DEFENSE cause guys' heads were actually in the game. No stupid baserunning, defensive lapses cause a badass like AJP was in the dugout.

Are you saying my theory is IMPOSSIBLE to claim? I beg to differ. I think it's possible I could be correct on this issue, which CAN'T be proven. You seem to be SURE of your position.

yes, I am saying it is impossible for AJ Pierzynski to transform this team from -22 games to "in contention" which probably would be a swing of at least 30 games.

We had plenty of loafing many of the years Pierzynski was here, particularly when Ozzie Guillen was manager. The only recent year where that wasn't really the case for most guys seems to have been 2012. 2011 people were ready to go watch college football during games and just wanted it over.

/double facepalm

I actually am with Greg on this one. I don't agree that AJ would make such a difference that it would matter, but I think he brought an attitude to the team that was sorely lacking this year. Who knows...maybe he keeps us in the game more early on in the season and we cure this fundamentals and s***ty defense that ailed us all year a lot sooner. It's pretty obvious that this team is capable of being a lot better than they have been this year, and having someone to keep some of these passive guys in the game a bit more may have made a much bigger difference than simply AJ's WAR alone.

Again, not saying it would be enough to make a difference, but I certainly can't say with any degree of certainty that we wouldn't be much closer to .500 this year than we currently are had we had someone in the clubhouse that keeps people on their toes like AJ.

To me, that was always AJ's greatest contribution to the ballclubs he was on in Chicago.

And I could argue that Alex Rios is the best right fielder in the game, but I won't.

AJP is more valuable than Mike Trout if what Greg says is true.

2006 - late season collapse

2007 - 90 losses

2008- tried to give away the division but held on with under 90 wins

2009-2010 - b****slapped by the Twins

2011 - underacheived

2012 - late season collapse

wow, AJs clubhouse presence sure was a major difference the last seven seasons

Having a true leader and field general is nice, but they can only do so much. And, having seen that both Flowers and Phegley appear unable to handle the position full time (at least for now), you know that you will probably need to acquire a catcher somehow.

With everything that's gone on with this team, suggesting they'd be better with AJ and perhaps even closer to .500 is not far fetched. Suggesting that the Sox would be in contention with AJ is ridiculous. Knowing that, and all the information we have, it is 100% for the absolute best that Pierzynski was not brought back for this season.

Exactly. I never hated Rios, but he was never my favorite player. But it would be a nice gesture and a good showing for potential free agents to show that fans on the Southside will have your back and love you even after you leave the city. Also, Rios would probably feel down if AJ gets a big standing ovation, and then Rios is announced 60 seconds later and no one cares.

Except we don't know what it might have been those years without him...until this year...
