flavum
http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20130828 Micah Johnson finally gets credit for that homer in the suspended game. Hawkins started the game 0-2, and now 0-5. Now .176. Edited August 29, 2013 by flavum

ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:46 PM) I like 'Tony Buc.' The guy's last name is brutal. I wasn't even going to attempt to spell or pronounce it in my head, so I figured Tony Buc is easier. I'm sure his nickname at some point has been Buc anyway. Ozzie Ball
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 04:36 AM) I'm with you. Every time the kid throws I want to point out his K/BB but his last name makes it much harder than it should be haha Yeah the K/BB (92SO, 6BB for those that haven't looked recently) is outstanding. He gets a lot of ground balls too. Obviously his age for this level is a big drawback, but he's certainly an interesting prospect to watch. Not sure of his velocity for full repertoire of pitches, but the scout at the game I was at in Kanny said his slider was looking very good. witesoxfan
If he can run it up to 92, he can be effective anywhere.
Jake
Keon Barnum isn't setting the world on fire, but doing what he's doing in low-A at his age and experience level is still pretty impressive
witesoxfan
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) Keon Barnum isn't setting the world on fire, but doing what he's doing in low-A at his age and experience level is still pretty impressive In approximately 45 plate appearances in June, Barnum hit .150/.239/.175/.414 with 20 strikeouts. In approximately 46 plate appearances in August, Barnum has hit .350/.435/.550/.985 with 8 strikeouts. Getting some extended work in Arizona in the fall and perhaps a Winter League as well would be good, but those are positive steps. I'm guessing he starts in W-S next year and, with any luck, gets a midseason promotion to AA.

Heal up, come back next year ready to go. He's only 19, so it isn't like the clock is ticking or anything.
witesoxfan
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) With the injury problems, I am good with his sitting out this fall/winter. Heal up, come back next year ready to go. He's only 19, so it isn't like the clock is ticking or anything. He's 20, and he turns 21 on January 16th. If he shows he's healthy for the rest of the season, he'll have about a month or so to rest and relax at the end of the season - Kanny's not going to the playoffs and, unless the Dash won one of their halves, they won't either, so there's no point in moving him around. Then you can send him to the instructional league and then the Winter Leagues. Winter Leagues may be a bit much for him at this point, being so underdeveloped and raw yet. The AZL Instructional is, in my mind, incredibly important for him though if he is going to have any potential to develop into a 1B of the future. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) I definitely think at the least he can become a younger Lindstrom. That heavy fastball-slider combination is enough for him the crack a ML pen if he keeps his control even close to where it's at now. We're making comps already? Seems a little premature. We know next to nothing about him. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) With the injury problems, I am good with his sitting out this fall/winter. I got the strong impression from a scout that Barnum will indeed be headed to fall instructs. He needs AB's.
Ozzie Ball
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Not sure of his velocity for full repertoire of pitches, but the scout at the game I was at in Kanny said his slider was looking very good. I had also read that he has a good hard slider, so it's good to get confirmation, as well as a heavy sinking fastball (sits high 80's, touching low 90's) and a change-up with good sinking action. That was from around the time he was drafted. Not sure of how, or if, he has progressed in the last year.

If we're looking at his season simply as pass/fail, I'm calling it a pass. He's progressed despite some injuries limited his playing time. Kannapolis RHP Tony Bucciferro 88-91 with solid life. Good SL and CH. Throws a ton of strikes, very efficient. https://mobile.twitter.com/stoltz_baseball/...z_baseball&
