Guest hotsoxchick1
The Sox have now changed their tune and are undecided on who will get the start. one reason is because mark has NEVER pitched in yankes stadium..... he was supposed to make his debut there on 9/11......word has it that he may toss a few innings so he can at least once pitch in that stadium....... Elcaballo45
If he wants to pitch so badly Im sure Jerry would make him Thursdays starter.... anyway, there is no way he would just come in as a setup man to Cotts, which would take out 2 starters in one game.... unless of course danny would go friday.. but im positive nothing like that will happen... winninguglyin83
allegedly the word is that if the Sox win Wednesday Cotts will start. if they lose Wedneday, Buehrle will pitch and try to win the series. just a story that's out there. southsider2k5
This is from today's trib. Sounds pretty for sure that Mark is going on TH. Some might suggest Mark Buehrle needs his head examined, not his shoulder. What else could explain why the White Sox's 24-year-old lefty would rather face a Yankees lineup featuring Jason Giambi and Derek Jeter than a Tigers team hitting .238? But that's Buehrle. He would rather take the ball Thursday in a duel against 14-7 Mike Mussina than take an extra day to rest his arm. "I've pitched in every [American League] park except this one and I think it will be a good matchup—me against Mussina," Buehrle said. "It seems like I usually step up and do better against big-time pitchers, like Pedro [Martinez] and Roger [Clemens]." Buehrle also believes he has the team's best interests at heart. If he were held back until Friday, the Sox would start rookie Neal Cotts Thursday. "I'm not saying that Neal can't get the job done," Buehrle said. "He has pitched well for us. [but] I think it's a big, big step for him pitching in Yankee Stadium his fourth big-league start." Buehrle had complained of tightness is his shoulder after throwing six strong innings Saturday night against Texas. That led manager Jerry Manuel to say over the weekend that he likely would push Buehrle's next start back a day. "It's not a big deal," Manuel said Tuesday. "He'd like to pitch here, and we'd like to reward him. It's probably more than 99.9 percent he'll get that opportunity." Buehrle threw on the side Tuesday without discomfort. "There's nothing wrong," he said. "[saturday] was just one of those days where just couldn't get loose. I've had days like that before in my career, and earlier this year too. You don't have it in the 'pen, you come out for the game and everything turns around for you." After hearing he might not start until Friday in Detroit, Buehrle said he asked pitching coach Don Cooper: "Why ain't I pitching here?" "But whatever they tell me to do, I'm going to do," Buehrle said. "I'm not going to argue with them."

Is Mark retiring after this season? Is he being traded to the NL? He is 24 not 44 there will be plenty of opportunity in the future. If the extra day of rest gets us 6 better starts the next month, enjoy the day of rest. If we were ten out I would agree with his point. Ugh.. John told us the story of 9/11 (the scheduled activities for that day). Brought me to tears. We are so very lucky to even have this team. Rex Hudler
You know, I usually don't complain about Manuel and the decisions he and his staff make, and I don't really have a problem with the decision that is being made here. But I do have a problem with the way it has been handled. Why annonuce Buehrle will be pushed back a day and then allow the pitcher to change your mind?? In my mind, they should have sat down with Mark and discussed all of this before they made a decision. Then, they should have either announced that Mark may be pushed back, or that he will be pushed back. If they say he will (like they did) then they shouldn't change their mind and they should have stuck with the decision. If JM and Coop met with Mark before they made their announcement, then they should have had enough balls to stick with their decision. Mark should have had his chance to sway their opinion BEFORE they went to the press announcing the decision. Either way, being wishy washy like this doesn't look good. Yes, I know in the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter, but it can't hurt to look like you have a clue sometimes.
1549
Cotts against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium? Hell be good some day but God help us if this is true... I believe the contrary. Cotts has a good chance of losing to Detroit too, so you might as well pitch him against the Yankees, and then throw Buehrle in Detroit because he has a slimmer chance of losing to the tigers. So it is like this- strong possiblity of losing if Buehrle faces the Yankees good chance Cotts could lose to the tigers or- Very Very Strong possibility of losing if Cotts faces the Yankees Very Very Slim possibility of losing if Buehrle faces the Tigers. Steff
I remember that. They were upset and left town. But why are we lucky to have the team? Dont get it... Several of the players were supposed to tour the observation deck that morning. They were minutes away from heading over there when the 1st plane hit. 15 more minutes.. very surreal. Since the phone service was messed up it was a few hours before families got to talk to their sons/husbands. Very tense time.

Rex Hudler
and no rex they did not meet with mark before hand to discuss this.. mark found out when it was announced and then went to talk...... That's what I don't get...... If you are going to move a guy to a different spot in the rotation, move him to a different spot in the batting order, etc., why in the hell would you not call the player into your office and let him know what you are thinking and why you plan to make a change, BEFORE you speak to the press?? At worst, if JM was asked the question before he talked to Mark, he could have said "We're discussing different possibilites the off day has afforded us, but no decision has yet been made."
