Excellent report.

Thanks for pulling all that information together.

One question: In the past I thought teams were limited to six guys. Have they expanded or our they just rotating a few guys out?

A couple of the players are only eligible to play on Wednesday's and Saturday's. Pretty sure Jacobs is one of them.

I wonder why Ravelo was not added to the list. Seems like a perfect candidate, especially compared to Mitchell.

He hasn't played above A+ yet, most of the guys there are AA and above. He's also young for his level as it is.

If he has at least a decent 2014, I'd bet he's in the AFL after that season. He needs the reps and development time.

Have you heard about who we have playing in that low level AFL?

Lot of guys in Instructs. See lots of Twitter traffic from down there already. Hawkins is there, Barnum, a number of other high end names, and a lot of less high end guys. I don't know of an official roster, I've tried to ask for one but never gotten a response.

This is an old question, but I'll ask it anyway:

Is there any reason to believe that something good can come out of Mitchell playing down there?

Seems like a final desperate stab at getting another organization interested.

I'd say the opposite, and ask what is the downside?

Agreed, it certainly doesn't hurt to get a different set of eyes on him to try and fix his hit tool.

He's shown a good knack for getting on base via the walk, even this past year where he walked 51 times in 90 games. In 2012 despite hitting just .238 he still put up a .368 obp, and in his first season he had a .407 obp.

That type of eye with his D in CF (I believe he's a + out there) is worth trying to turn around.

I certainly wouldn't suggest releasing the guy. But the downside to him playing in the AFL is simply that someone else may get more out of it. Not a big downside, but something to consider.

Who? I don't see anyone that is in the right place of development, and at a high enough level, that this could be hurting.

Glendales first game is tomorrow...I assume there's no place to watch the game online so who will be providing updates on twitter?

FutureSox will post recaps, and occasional in-game stuff, on Twitter. Not going to be a blow-by-blow or anything though.

I just think it's a fantasy to believe that Mitchell will ever be a big-league player.

He went from AAA to AA this season and struck out 96 times in 247 ABs at Birmingham.

He doesn't have any power. It's almost as if the Sox refuse to admit they wasted the money on another football player like Fields and Borchard. One day they'll learn.

They really have no one better to send. The sad truth is no matter what Mitchell's chances of making it are, they are better than anyone else who could be considered for AFL right now. Everyone else is either too young, too far away, or sucks.

sad indeed.

My only hope is that one of the Hawkins, Thompson, Jacobs trio figures it out. Going to be difficult and expensive to rebuild an offense without some homegrown hitters.

I would like to have seen Michael Earley or Mark Haddow go instead. Both OF's who have shown some hitting ability, but are not highly considered as prospects. Haddow missed some time to injury this year, which is likely the only thing that kept him from AA. In both cases, it would be nice to see if they have anything to offer against tougher competition.

The reason they should admit defeat on Mitchell is because an injury derailed his career, not being under talented or scouted poorly. If the Sox cut him loose, it shouldn't have to be a hit to their pride, because it was an uncontrollable factor that caused him to be worthless. He's not a blackmark on the scouts.

Why do I feel like 99% of the posts on this site disagree and hold him strongly against the scouts? (interestingly enough all these posters are furious that the Sox didn't draft Trout).

Are you a part of that 99%? Because I don't put blame on anyone for the Mitchell situation, it was just unfortunate bad luck, and that happens.

I actually agree with you there, the Sox might have gotten a good player but he basically lost 2 years where he should be developing to that injury. Another team might have had more success with him but unlikely since he was raw before the injury.

What really drives me nuts is all the people saying how they knew we should have taken Trout. I actually once went back to that year's draft thread to check. The only response to Trout being drafted from the entire board was something similar to "the Angels sure do love their outfielders, don't they"?
