elrockinMT
If we have this Cuban super star Abreu locked up does it mean Paulie wont ne coming back? Where would PK play other than DH and PT at 1B Where would that leave Dunn? I think it is more likely PK retires and we have Dunn and Abreu sharing DH and 1B. It seems Abreu has a good glove at 1B from what we have been hearing so Dunn stays at DH for the most part. I would like to see PK return as the hitting coach. Think it's possible? Dick Allen
The White Sox next hitting coach will have been a hitting coach previously. Hahn has made that clear more than once, and if Paulie isn't playing, he isn't going to be away from home for 6 months to be a hitting coach. The most thankless job in baseball. He doesn't seem like a guy dying to travel with a team all year as just a coach. That news conference in the dugout made him seem like he really misses his family. He's got the cash to hang with his kids as they grow up.

Kyyle23
QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) I've heard nobody say that "Abreu has a good glove at 1B." "If he had just a tad more speed, he would be a complete player,'' said Cespedes, pointing out Abreu runs well for his size but is not a burner. "Of the five tools, he's got four. He's a good fielder and he can hit for average and power.'' Cespedes said it
Quin
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) Cespedes said it Was about to post that. Cespedes has a better idea of Abreu than most scouts. Also, I can see PK being hitting coach in 2 or 3 years. Take some time off with his family. He's made over $100M so he'll be fine and should enjoy some retirement. ChiliIrishHammock24
I'd love to see Paulie back as the hitting coach, but methinks he will take a handful of years off baseball before he comes back again.

Cespedes has said he was a good fielder. As for PK as hitting coach? Like DA said Hahn wants someone with experience. Vance Law
I still think there is a decent chance they make a Konk/Dunn platoon at DH/1B. With all of the talk we heard about "would Konerko accept more limited playing time" and "mentoring younger players." Someone in another thread said they thought a potential Abreu signing (it happened!) meant the Sox move Dunn and eat some salary. What makes more sense to me is eating some of Keppinger's salary to move him, he's only owed 8 mil to Dunn's 15. If nothing else on the roster changes (but I bet it will) a Gillaspie/L. Garcia platoon and a Dunn/Konk platoon makes you a better team than Gillaspie/Keppinger and Dunn/Dunn.
Soxfest
No to PK as a hitting coach, Sox already doing enough on the job training with Ventura.

Folks here are saying Cespedes said it. I thought I read an interview with Viciedo where he said it too? In fact he was given a 4 out of 5 star tool rating. Running being his weakness
Balta1701
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) No to PK as a hitting coach, Sox already doing enough on the job training with Ventura. If Konerko's interested in being a hitting coach...great, I'd love to give him the job of hitting coach overseeing the entire system. Working with boht the minor leagues and the major leagues as necessary. I definitely want an outside voice on the ML staff though.
