Another "family member" comes home. I hope we didn't give up much for him.

I'm sure they had to give up Hawkins, Barnum, and Snodgress to get him...or probably like $50 and any future Braves nepotism candidates as well

I'm sure they gave up next to nothing, a very small amount of cash.

That said, I do dislike these kinds of moves. The guy clearly isn't a prospect. If he is used as minor league bench filler, being a backup 1B for example that plays 20 games a year for some low level club to give a guy some rest, that's fine. I don't care. If he starts taking starting at bats from anyone, then it does bug me.

Honestly, I didn't mind Oney when he was playing for the Sox because his clear role was to move from team to team filling a roster spot and getting time on the field only when absolutely necessary. Those kinds of players are necessary. Adam Ricks was good at that too.

Sure, again, as long as they weren't taking up significant playing time. Basically, either they are there to assist teams by filling a bench role no one else wants, or they are just being given a brief "tour" of the system. Those cases are fine. When they become KW Jr, it becomes an issue. OR even something in between.

The other thing I definitely got when I visited Bristol was that the teams like having these type of guys around who have connections to the big league squad...they can hear things from above, they can send news and reports from above, and they also have grown up around major league front offices and locker rooms and can give the young guys insights into how to behave/prepare for those next levels.

As long as they're not stealing playing time obviously from people who deserve it.

It is not about the money this organization does this over and over for no reason other than making someone's Dad happy.

Every organization does this....

As NSS said, as long as we don't give priority to these guys over actual prospects then who cares.

Mike Piazza was a pick made out of nepotism too. I'm sure Alex Avila was too. Some of these guys get drafted just because they're someone's son and they actually figure something out with their game and turn into decent players. Some of them were actually good to begin with. This is not likely to be one of those cases, but frankly, anybody who cares about this move is bored.
