I heard Hawk talk about Frank using the aluminum in BP so last night at the game I went early to see BP, I noticed Frank, CLee, and Valentin all took some swings with the aluminum. Jose hit a mammoth with the aluminum that hit the sign in the right field bleachers off of one bounce.

Can anyone explain to me how the aluminum bat helps, btw from what I saw Frank never got one out of the infield with the aluminum, most popped into the screen, obviously though it did not affect his performance last night.

I don't think it does, they're just trying to have some fun out there with it.

if you have ever hit with an aluminum bat then you would recall that when you hit nice dingers it has a smooth reverb on your hands.. when you dont hit it just so you get that gosh aweful vibration that rocks your hands badly.... frank was using the aluminum bat to get better trust in his hands.. (well according to hawk anyhow).........

If everyone hates Colon how come they use his aluminum bat? If he was a stuffy asshole why would he enjoy batting practice so much?

Maybe they are trying to break his bat and maybe it gives him confidence seeing someone else serve up more homeruns than him.

I have been reading Tim McCarver's book on baseball and I got to the hitting chapter. He said that most of the time when a hitter is struggling he is usually being over-aggressive. This means a guy like Frank Thomas feels like his timing is slow and is trying to compensate by getting his hands out faster and that is what makes him pop it up alot. With the aluminum bat in BP, Frank's hands get through the hitting zone much more quickly and it can help his timing and confidence. As Hawk would say, Frank is a strong man.

Sounds like a wood bat, not aluminum..... wood is much less forgiving. Not sure why Hawk would describe it like that....
