southsider2k5
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 03:12 AM) He didn't say "had better seasons", he said IS BETTER. That's a big difference, and the reason that comment is asinine. Not to mention WAR is a counting stat and Sale missed a month.

LittleHurt05
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) Not to mention WAR is a counting stat and Sale missed a month. Arrieta pitched 17.1 less innings than Sale in 2014. If Arrieta repeats his 2014 season, I don't think it's a stretch to say he's better than Q. That's a big if though, because he had been a bust before then. Q has proved it for several years now.
max power
I was just about to ask about arrieta since I havent seen a cubs game in over a year. What changed for him last year? Those numbers are nothing like the rest of his career.

ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (MAX @ Dec 13, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) Part of me expects a phil humber like regression. Pitcher in a new league, no one should be surprised if he regresses a bit from his awesome 2014. I think he could still be a solid 3+ WAR pitcher next season, but I don't see him being a 6 WAR guy. Rowand44
His stuff is a lot better than Humber's but regression is certainly a good possibility
Jake
The thing Arrieta has going for him is that ALL his stuff changed last year. It wasn't like he got lucky. He earned those numbers last year. He struck out more, walked less, gave up less homers, pitched more. What he doesn't have going for him is that he's never done that stuff before. Pitchers are fickle creatures, by and large.

fathom
Surprised the Cubs had to give a 2 year deal to Lester's buddy David Ross, but they did for a 2 year/5 million dollar contract. Wellington Castillo is a pretty nice trade chip they have now.

Kyyle23
It's hilarious that Castro was cleared in his first foray into club-shooting-up. So then he went and did it again less than a month later. It really makes you wonder about that possible rape situation last season

I don't doubt that baseball players in Central/SOuth American have major issues with that when they suddenly become multi-millionaires. But when these instances keep happening to the same player again and again, more than anyone else, it's time to question what the truth really is.
