greg775
Billy Butler is getting killed by Royals fans on twitter. Funny, I thought that little dribbler was going to get ruled a hit. Guess it was an egregious error. The fans are attacking Butler cause things went south after the error. Of course some of the same fans have been screaming Yost better dare not use Hosmer at first once he returns and not mess with Butler. LOL. Like Roy Williams once said when he was Kansas coach, "The only way to shut everybody up is to win." A variation of Al Davis' Just.Win.Baby. caulfield12
Justin Verlander's starting today, FYI. Wonder how he'll do with all the public scrutiny and humiliation. Knowing the Tigers' announcers, they would never dare bring it up, other than saying something generic about "outside distractions" or the like. Felix Hernandez and Jon Lester as well in a key game for both teams out West. Edited September 3, 2014 by caulfield12

He took naked pics with female companions in private, which some of his teammates may have possibly done too. It just so happens his female companion is a world famous model, so some internet people decided to hack into those photos. There's nothing really to talk about it or criticize. There is no impact, Verlander was terrible before the leak, and looks to be terrible after the leak. The rest of the team isn't going to stop playing baseball because Verlander was shown standing naked next to Upton.

caulfield12
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) People fail to realize Verlander was injured this past offseason and may not have been fully healed or back to 100% the entire season. Everyone in Detroit knows he had the now infamous "core (abdominal) muscle repair" surgery in the offseason. It's just hard to determine if the performance dip is related to that (at all) or 100% about Leyland putting too much wear and tear on his arm from 2006-2012. One can at least imagine he's not getting enough drive and whip from his torso....we all know everything's connected, that a lot of Verlander's fastball comes from leg drive, which is related to your abdominal muscles flexing as well. greg775
Royals getting owned by Detroit again. Detroit has won 11 of 15 this year vs. KC. Royals are trying to ride their excellent defense and pitching into the playoffs. Thing is, KC's offense is so putrid (nobody walks; nobody ever homers) it is putting the postseason in jeopardy. Can defense and pitching win out as the cliche says? Or do you need some hitting too?

Time for "Big Game" to step it up I guess. Royals just haven't gotten enough offense their last 20.... They had that huge 24-6 run but they've been going along around 2-3 games under .500 now for the last month since they took over 1st. And their bullpen's getting worn down into the ground, as they can't use Davis/Escobar/Holland every single game that's tied or where they have a lead. caulfield12
Royals using 1st rounder LHP Finnegan (TCU) out of the pen down the stretch drive...a lot like the Chris Sale situation in 2010, albeit for a much shorter period of games. I laughed at the many talk shows out here saying Shields doesn't deserve to pitch the "big games" that may await the Royals still the rest of the season/postseason. They want Duffy (before injury) and Vargas. How stupid. After the Tigers game I'm sure the fans are back heavy on the Shields is god bandwagon, however. It's interesting how Butler has been benched of late. It's obvious he'll be on another team next year. Would the Sox want him as another base-clogger for 7 million a year, three years? Granted he may be finished. It'd be a risk but you could probably get him cheap. He's definitely a bounceback candidate with a new organization, unless like I said, he may be finished at a relatively young baseball age. Sox do not have a DH candidate right now with any pop. Of course Butler is more a doubles guy as he's never elevated consistently. Edited September 12, 2014 by greg775

Somebody will probably give Butler 10 million a year which would be crazy. It is interesting though. If it's 7 mill a year, three years; 21 mill total, would the Sox take the risk at DH? You'd have a heart of the order lineup of Eaton, Lexi, A. Garcia, Abreu and Butler as your first five hitters in the order. There are probably worse five-somes in baseball for sure. caulfield12
Royals have forgotten how to play defense (except last night) over the last week. Hosmer with 10 errors and missing quite a bit of the season, when he won the GG? Moustakas and Escobar are also players who are close to Gold Glove caliber. Can't give teams like the Red Sox, even without Pedroia, 2 runs when your offense is struggling to score.

It's not like he is putting up totally anemic numbers. Not great, but he was hot during their hot streak. Something tells me KC fans are going to be disappointed. They'll lose the division to Detroit by a game or two and lose the wildcard by a game or two. Cleveland isn't out of it yet, either. Can't see Ned coming back if KC doesn't win the division. It'll be another rebuilding year next year without Shields and Butler. Guthrie and Vargas can go south at any time. Poor KC.
