Viciedo and Ramirez not "safe" because of Abreu

There have been times where Viciedo looked incredibly good at the plate, but most of the time he has looked like a hacking, impatient free swinger. I wish he would use the approach he used off the DL last year at all times. It may have been him being tenative to swing, but I have never seen him look so good at the plate.

I have to disagree with Marty. Viciedo has been a free swinger and seems to be trying to kill everything. At one time tis seemed to please some of us but seeing him flail away has worn tin. He is to blame as he hasn't produced. But, I think he has the talent. Maybe Abreu's and Ramirez' presence might turn him around? Who knows? But, it seems that when we start talking Sox players so much negativity surfaces. I am surprised that as fans we still have a team to root for. It's like they are all worthless and can only fetch a minor league player in return provided we throw in some cash

Thome + Anderson was better than Rowand + Everett. So the offense was and upgrade over '05. Fangraphs shows Anderson was better than Rowand on defense in '06 as well.

The one and only reason the Sox didn't make the playoffs is because the team ERA went up a full run more than '05. It's unfortunate Vazquez pitched as badly as the rest of the Sox that year, but getting a 200 inn. workhorse who strikes guys out was not the wrong idea.

Which happens sometimes when your starters pitch deep into October the previous year.

I still doubt the Sox move either of them. Especially Viciedo, he's still only 24, and will be just 25 on opening day. That's still years away from his "prime" years. He still could turn into a nice offensive middle of the lineup bat.

This has to receive precedence I think and we can contend even if he goes pile of terds on us. Hahn's apparent drive to expedite the process has me as excited as I've ever been during an offseason.

I gotta agree about the offseason. Signing Abreu has really got me excited. I don't expect the Sox to contend, but my excitement level at this time is far greater than it was last year at this time.

Ramirez is likely safe as the sox don't have any real options at SS who can replace his hitting and defense.

Viciedo likely could be dealt. If Dayan could SLG more than .500, and improve his defense maybe hold onto him. But I don't see him or Beckham changing their free swinging, low avg. low OBP, ways.
