Are you suggesting Keppinger and Konerko were worse? Because that's silly. They merely played more. If you give Phegley the same number of plate appearances, he ends up as the worst.

Using wRC+ which tells you how you played relative to the league as opposed to offensive runs accumulated, which is a measure of how often you play, then Phegley's 34 comes out as the worst...by far.

You know it's a sad state of affairs when people argue over who's the worst player on the team and if that player or our other players were the worst in baseball.

So he sucked after his call up. Imagine that, a rookie sucking with his first exposure to ML league pitching.

Finally an ACTUAL trade rumor to talk about! Of course this is just part of David Schoenfield's 3-team trade ideas, and not based on anything of substance...but....

In one of his hypotheticals, he has the Sox trading Chris Sale and Addison Reed for Jorge Soler, Gary Sanchez, CJ Edwards, Zoilo Almonte, and Vidal Nuno. For those who may not be prospect heads, those would be the Cubs #3 and #5 prospects, and the Yankees #1, #6, and unranked (Nuno).

That wouldn't be a terrible haul for Sale, but I also don't think it's one that needs to be made unless the Sox are getting a ace-type prospect back in the package, like Archie Bradley or Dylan Bundy or Taijuan Walker. Obviously that's a nice collection of hitters, but CJ Edwards is the only good pitching prospects in that scenario, and he only just made it to A+ last year.

I would never do that deal straight-up for Sale let alone include Reed in it.

IMO, you have to be blown away to trade Sale and that's not enough.

The Pirates are on the verge of acquiring catcher Chris Stewart from the Yankees.

Nice timing....Heard the Mets were interested in Flowers. Maybe we can send him to NY.

The Sox are only going to trade Tyler Flowers if they can't come to an agreement on a contract, and the player they get back in return will be organizational filler. The Knights have new uniforms so maybe they'll try and get them a championship this year to celebrate.

The Sox won't trade Chris Sale, at this state of the franchise, unless they get back another major league superstar, who has some contract value left in him. Otherwise forget it. Unless the Sox absolutely implode this year, there is no chance Sale goes anywhere.

Dioner Navarro to the Jays and writers say he's likely to start with the Jays wanting to trade Arancibia. Not that I want him out anything but we know Hahn has had discussions with the Jays about players. What about Beckham for JP straight up?

Good god no. JP Arencibia has said in the past "The point of baseball is to go up there and hit the ball, so even if the pitch is out of the strike zone, I am going to go up there and try and hit it. [sic]" He is absolutely brutal. I wouldn't give up Dylan Axelrod for him, because at least Dylan Axelrod can serve a semi-productive purpose by being a gas can and eating innings in a game the Sox have already lost.

I'd rather try and get Josh Thole on the cheap.

Left handed, Illinois guy, just 27, and in the year where he had his most playing time (386 PAs) he put up a .280/.350/.359 with 32 walks compared to 40 Ks.

He's got no power, but he has the ability to work a count and extend innings which is a plus.

The Sox merely have to hope that the Marlins pass on Carlos Perez and they will have a chance to get a guy with a career .280/.365/.395/.760 in the minors. I'd rather they not trade for anyone, take him, re-sign Flowers, and go into camp with 2 of the 3 breaking camp with the Sox.

How old is he? Does he have any major league experience?

He's going to be 23 next year. No, he has no MLB experience, but that doesn't matter for next year's team. Tyler Flowers had major league experience and he was a mammoth of a bust.

I was just wondering if he did or not. But he would definitely be helpful and add depth to that position through the organization.

Tyler Flowers minor league numbers: .275/.391/.484/.876

Carlos Perez isn't an every day major league catcher and will be terrible if the Sox expect him to produce better than, or even the same level as, Phegley or Flowers.

So ya, let us just forget about this awful idea.

I wouldn't say it's an awful idea, but counting on any Rule 5 guys to be anything other than guys offered back to the organizations they were drafted from is beyond a reach anymore. But, if he's available and the Sox scouts think he has a chance to stick, the worst case scenerio costs the Sox 25k, but they get a solid look. You never know with catchers. This guy is still only 23.

So ya, let us just forget about this awful idea.

Mythical god and White Sox legend AJ Pierzynski, who people just can't seem to let go, put up .287/.323/.414/.737 in the minors.

Perennial MVP candidate Yadier Molina was a career .278/.335/.368/.703 hitter in the minors.

He draws walks, he makes good contact, and he plays good defense. You pay $50K to bring him in with an ultimate risk of $25K because you can offer him back for $25K to the Astros if you don't like him, which is pennies for the White Sox organization. You are taking on no risk for what could ultimately be the variable "some" reward. If the Sox don't want him or don't see a fit, they simply give him back.

This is not an awful idea. This is how smart teams operate. I'm not suggesting they give him 500 plate appearances next year or that he'd ever develop into anything more than a backup, but when the alternatives are spending $40+ mill a year on Saltalamacchia, giving up very good prospects while likely ultimately losing Wieters, trading for a defensively challenged and older player in Jaso, trading for Ryan f***ing Hanigan, or coming back with nothing and going into next year with Tyler Flowers coming off shoulder surgery and Josh Phegley, what do you want to do?

So anyone with a .876 OPS in the minors will be a bust at the majors?
