Are you saying the Sox signed him? Or that you want them to?

A two-time minor league player of the year in the Blue Jays' system, Seattle outfielder Johermyn Chavez came to Seattle as part of the Brandon Morrow trade during the 2009 offseason. He chewed up high-A High Desert in 2010 (.315/.387/.577, 32 homers), but ran into a wall at AA last season, dropping to a mere .216/.312/.360 with 13 dingers. His strikeout rate has remained a consisten once-per-afternoon affair for his entire career, but at least it's not getting any worse. Still young, still with room to grow, but now carrying more concerns than hopes, he's starting to look like the modern version of Wladimir Balentine, enigmatic maybe-slugger.

But he wasn't the only interesting guy to take the mound today. Former OF'er Johermyn Chavez, who had a nice spring but then struggled mightily at Tennessee (.206, 0 HRs), so the Cubs decided to convert the strong-armed RF'er into a pitcher. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed one hit, one walk, and one run. He also struck out a batter. According to LaTribuOriental.com (h/t Caps), Chavez was throwing 95-96 mph off the mound earlier this summer. Another potential power arm? Why not?

Reading the translation of this, and then applying some common sense, it looks like they are going to use him as an OF. My thoughts are in the brackets.

But the decision was reversed by the player , who then act as pitcher in the league rookie of Arizona and the Venezuelan parallel , received a new offer from the Chicago White Sox , which will keep you in organized baseball , but as gardener [must mean 'outfielder']. " For weeks he began to hit and possibly include it in the roster this week . It's something I will talk to Alfredo Pedrique "said Samuel Muscatel , CEO of Caribbean .

The left aragüeño 20.25 ERA in two presentations ( 1.1 innings) launched in the D-League this year . Instead, with the tree [must mean the wood aka the bat] is batting .313 ( 32-10 ) in eight games as a starter.

Apparently, the Royals just signed Chavez.

The Royals announced that they have signed infielder Brian Bocock and outfielder Johermyn Chavez to minor-league contracts. The 28-year-old Bocock has 38 big league games on his resume and last appeared in the majors in 2010 with the Phillies. He has a career .226/.297/.309 minor-league line. Chavez, 24, has never appeared in the big leagues. He's hit .261/.340/.438 in nearly 3,000 minor-league plate appearances.

Yes, a "jardinero" is Spanish for both a gardener, and an outfielder.
