chw42
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) Bagwell was at 213 Bagwell was almost hitting .370 that year. I wonder what his final numbers would have looked like if there wasn't a strike. Same goes for Frank. Frank also had a 205 wRC+ that year, which is a figure you just don't see anymore these days. For comparison, even with Cabrera's great season last year and the lower scoring run environment, his wRC+ was 192. Eminor3rd
Thrilled that Frank got in on the first ballot, my alltime favorite player. But very disappointed in the lack of support for Estaban Loaiza
southsider2k5
Great for Frank. This is validation of exactly how incredible of a hitter the guy was. Also 16 people didn't vote for Greg Maddux. Seriously? Awful. More than Biggio missing by 2 votes, Maddux being left off of 16 ballots means there are 16 writers out there who need to be b**** slapped. For comparison, even with Cabrera's great season last year and the lower scoring run environment, his wRC+ was 192. There remain questions as to whether or not Bagwell was clean. Still, those two OPS+ were the highest by clean players since Mickey Mantle in 1957 (221). The only other names you find on that list after 1900 are Ruth, Gehrig, Hornsby, and Williams (also Bonds and McGwire, but they were obvious users). Safe to say that Frank had an incredible peak. Rooftop Shots
uote name='southsider2k5' date='Jan 8, 2014 -> 02:19 PM' post='2916084'] Great for Frank. Just don't understand some peoples thought process. I heard them say on MLBN that there was one writer that would never vote anyone in that was playing during the steroid era..............and that included Maddux. southsider2k5
There is a discrepancy there. The HOF page has Maddux not getting on 14 ballots, while the writers are all claiming 16. I wonder what the difference is from. http://baseballhall.org/class-of-2014

flavum
Percentage changes: Biggio +6.6 Piazza +4.4 Everyone else went backwards. Lee Smith, Edgar Martinez, Larry Walker, and Fred McGriff had huge reversals. Hopefully these guys will at least make the rule change about unlimited voting a reality. RibbieRubarb
Love this stat line: Frank Thomas is one of just three men in history to finish a career with 10,000 plate appearances and a slash line of .300/.400/.550. The other two: Stan Musial and Babe Ruth. Put that on the board. Edited January 8, 2014 by RibbieRubarb
