Kyyle23
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) China won't f*** with Japan as long as we have Japan's back. This is all saber rattling. They have been f***ing with Japan over these islands for a while now

southsider2k5
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) But we're a pretty important military ally of Japan. We are Japan's military.
pettie4sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) We are Japan's military. That is a bit exaggerated. Japan has a very capable IDF. It would be similar to a SK/US type of military agreement.

Assuming Japan doesn't blatantly start it, the US and Japan have a mutual defense agreement and so an attack on Japan is an attack on us. secretary Havel made it clear that they would judge a Chinese attempt to take these islands by force as an attack on us a few days ago. Balta1701
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 29, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Nice to be Japan. You get to play chicken with American lives. Because when I think of countries that never use their military irresponsibly and come close to putting allies in jeopardy...it's the United States. caulfield12
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 29, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) So you're saying Japan is the Israel of Asia? Not even close. Different situations. You could just as easily substitute South Korea or the Philippines for Japan. In the case of Israel, historically, there's just not a really good comparison. Balta1701
This year, NORAD has elected to send a fighter escort alongside Santa Claus on Christmas Eve when he makes his round the world flight. This has apparently upped the ante on the diplomatic row since that would mean U.S. fighters escorting Santa into Chinese air space, including this disputed territory. A White House spokesperson commented on the matter saying: “I’m not empowered to speak for Mr. Claus, nor would his sleigh be subject to the same regulations as U.S. civilian airliners. As a general matter, the United States does not recognize the newly announced ADIZ, which appears to be a provocative attempt to unilaterally change the status quo in the East China Sea, a highly sensitive area, and thus raises regional tensions and increases the risk of miscalculation, confrontation and accidents.”
