DukeNukeEm
Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 59s Per source, Konerko returning for one year, $2.5 million, with a portion deferred. Announcement to come later this morning $2.5M? I'd pay that just to kick the tires on Paul Konerko.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 07:35 AM) You get 324 starts between 1B and DH. Maybe it can work with something like this... Abreu- 140 Dunn- 108 Konerko-76 Nahh...this is going to be bad. Konerko against lefties is good and Dunn isn't so production of that spot should be better. Only thing that really stinks is we have two guys who pretty much play 1st/DH and a 3rd guy who should just DH (Dunn), although he technically can play LF and 1B. southsider2k5
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) That can work, and would likely be a formidible group. But you still need to have to cover the OF and skill IF positions with two guys, or alternately shorten up the bullpen to 6. I think more moves are coming. My assumption was based on all three being on the roster coming April 1. I do think the Sox try to move Dunn.
witesoxfan
That is the salary of a guy who is not expecting much playing time.

LittleHurt05
This move is all JR. Sucks to see Hahn have his hands tied by his owner already.

This much I don't like, but Hahn has said all along that Konerko had a spot on the team if he wanted, but that was likely due to Reinsdorf. Abreu- 140 Dunn- 108 Konerko-76 Nahh...this is going to be bad. I'm sure you will see a lot of cross pinch hitting between Dunn and Konerko (lefty reliever comes in with Dunn starting) and Konerko as a late inning replacement on defense for Abreu, which is another way to get him through the much longer season. witesoxfan
The one thing I really don't want this to devolve into is a Ken Griffey Jr situation, where he is terrible off the shoot and ends up retiring in May. I guess personally, I think that's an embarrassing way to go out.

Absolutely. And Hahn has to talk to the media and smile and lie his butt off. Part of the job, I guess.
Dick Allen
I also agree with Marty when he said if Konerko realizes he can't play, he probably won't wait until the end of the season to hang em up.
NorthSideSox72
I see these as the most likely next scenarios due to PK's return (assuming Dunn and PK stay with the team, which I think they will), in order of likelihood... 1. Keppinger and/or Gillaspie are traded, bench becomes Garcia, Danks, PK14, C 1a. If both are traded, Semien at 3B, else Semien at AAA 2. Sox break camp with only 11 pitchers, keep Keppinger. 3. A more major trade is coming involving Beckham or Alexei. 4. Dunn is traded.
Buehrle>Wood
May 8th is the last Cubx game...little early to retire then but ill take it
BigHurt3515
I like the move, split time with Dunn/Abreu, with Abreu getting the most time (I am sure he will need days off with not being use to playing so many games and days in a row). Konerko is a staple of this organization and I am glad he is returning and not going out with the way he performed last year.. If he didn't think he could play he wouldn't be here. Dick Allen
Again, it's the 25th roster spot. If signing AJ supposedly only gets you 2 wins, bringing back Paulie instead of Jordan Danks or some other minor league fodder is probably even less if Paulie isn't any better. There is really no need to be upset. Edited December 4, 2013 by Dick Allen

Soxfest
Whoopee doo........ sorry Hahn this is not the move most fans consider improving the 2014 team. I can here Hahn now saying we could not get any free agents due to the budget but hey buy your tickets Paulie is back. Chisoxfn
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) Why. Cause the stolen base is overvalued (see Ellsbury signing) so now the market has overcorrected and there is value in the guy that steals .5 bases per season!!! Plus its Paul f***ing Konerko!!! NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) I don't like Leury Garcia. Why is he going to be our utility IF? Because he is a plus defender for at least 2 skill IF positions and possibly a third, he's young and cheap, and needs more time to develop the bat. Also has plus speed, can PR well. Why don't you like him? He's pretty much the ideal utility IF.

If he ends up there, it's because he's good defensively and extremely fast.
southsider2k5
Bruce Levine @MLBBruceLevine 2m Konerko was told that he would be a DH verses some Left handed pitching and help Abreau as a backup at first . Contract $2.
southsider2k5
Phil Rogers @philgrogers 4m @whitesox would like to deal @adamdunn_32. He'd be popular add with @astros but market is limited.
