BigEdWalsh
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) We went from rebuilding to a retirement home Oh well, this isn't too big of a deal in my opinion. Sox are gonna be one of the worst teams in the majors next year anyways, hopefully PK can go out on a better note than he would have this year. Yep. Pretty much expected this and I only hope Konerko hits well going out in style. Oooooooh if only Dunn could be dealt!
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) I really dont understand the deferring of 1 million from 2.5 Konerko now has a million dollars a year from 2014 to 2021 in deferred money. It is a set up for retirement. He is just pushing back the million for this year, back to 2021
elrockinMT
a healthy Konerko can be a productive player. Now the question in my mind is Dunn being shopped and will he go somewhere else? Stranger things have happened and we seem to be flying under the proverbial radar as far as trades and free agent signings are concerned. 2nd_city_saint787
I have zero problem with this. Not a big Luery fan, but he can play 3B/SS/2B, and Danks can play all 3 OF positions so I don't see the problem. If they can't find any one to take Keppinger then so be it, I think they could still make it work with him on the bench(and Luery in AAA). Lexi has played 158 games the last 3 years, in the 4 games he needs rest just move Gordon to SS and play Kepp at 2B. Should an injury happen they have Luery and Semien waiting in AAA. southsider2k5
Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 6m Jerry Reinsdorf: Paul Konerko has been the constant face of #WhiteSox organization & the heart of our clubhouse over past 15 seasons. (1/2) Reinsdorf: (Konerko) certainly earned the right to make this decision on his own, and we are very pleased that he has decided to return. 2/

Dick Allen
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) Yup? Like, yup, gonna happen? Or, yup, hope it happens? I think if they have had the chance to trade Dunn at a price they were comfortable with, Konerko coming back or retiring really would have little bearing on whether or not to pull the trigger. Steve9347
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) Cause the stolen base is overvalued (see Ellsbury signing) so now the market has overcorrected and there is value in the guy that steals .5 bases per season!!! Plus its Paul f***ing Konerko!!!
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) Yeah, I had the same question. For which team might he be a fit? I personally think that's a bad idea, and not likely to happen. You'd have to ship some money with him, for one, which the Sox virtually never do. For another, despite people despising his K totals, he was one of the couple most productive hitters in the lineup. Finally, who plays DH instead as the starter? Konerko? Seems like a bad idea. Andy Wilkins? Dan Black? Even best case neither of those guys will touch Dunn's production, at least not in 2014. Keppinger? Ha!
flavum
OK, I get it. He was getting 1 mil 2014-2020 from his last contract. So now it's 2.5 total for 2014, and the 1 mil a year shifts to 2015-2021.
Marty34
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 08:58 AM) How much of a farewell is it if he's sitting on the bench or he's on the DL with a back injury or he's barely hitting like he did last year? A quick one. He'll retire by the end of May if he isn't hitting.

harfman77
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:42 AM) Seattle and Houston would be my first two calls for Dunn. Why would Houston have any interest? They are in the same boat as us building for the future, not adding one year stop gaps. Seattle, Baltimore, TB, Toronto, NYM, and Miami all seem like better fits. harfman77
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) You don't give someone $68 million to play in the minors, even if just to adjust. He is 100% making the roster. The Dodgers spent $42M and did the same thing. There is no reason to rush him out there as the team is not in place to contend anyway. But with this organizations record of breaking hitting prospects, I am sure you are right, regardless of what is best for the player and team long term he will be thrown to the wolves on opening day. witesoxfan
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) It's not a rebuild until Dunn goes. Yes it is. Saying it's not is ridiculous. The team is clearly in the middle of a transitional phase where we can expect some good things from them while also expecting some very, very ugly days. Getting rid of Dunn without getting anything back (meaning you are eating most or all of his salary and getting nothing of value in return) is absurd. Keppinger? Ha! How about getting Viciedo to play DH and then adding a CF? That would make the team tremendously better defensively sliding De Aza over to LF. Or you rotate your DH/OF/3B/1B until you find a lineup that clicks or a prospect pushes someone and you need to use the spot. I think with the contracts that hitters are getting, there is not a need to include money in a deal, and a team will have the option of tendering an offer at the end of the season and re-couping a draft pick, so that has some value as well. harfman77
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) They are also spending $200 million a year and fully expected to compete last year with Crawford, Kemp, and Ethier. It's completely different situations. It sure is, but the Dodgers results have been a lot better than the A's have had with Cespedes when he was utilized as the Sox will use Abreu. From most accounts Cespedes was thought to be a superior player to Puig but has struggled to adjust to the majors and impacted his value. The Sox are not in win now mode, at least they shouldn't be, so taking every pre-caution to protect your long term investments seems to make the most sense. BlackSox13
I know there's a lot of time before ST but if this is all the Sox can do to improve a 99 loss team I'm uninspired to say the least. At this point I wont waste any time watching games and won't spend a f***ing penny on anything white Sox. I'll keep my money and they can have their precious Paulie. What a f***ing joke and waste of a roster spot!
