Teams begging Sox for Chris Sale

^Also the only team that can make me want to do a Sale deal is the Dodgers. They're f***ing crazy, they might empty out their farm & give up Adrian Gonzalez at $5M per eating the remainder. Who knows. We'd need some team to do something STUPID and they're easily the #1 target for that kind of outcome.

Edit: and trading a bunch of unproven prospects who have never done anything and mostly like will underwhelm if not fully bust for Sale isn't stupid, it's smart.

Why would you want Adrian Gonzalez?

Any deal involving Sale must include at least two guys that will be on the major league roster on 4/1. No reason to take on a bunch of low level prospects. If I were Hahn, the deals I would consider:

Dbacks - Skaggs, Parra, Bradley, Davidson, Gregorius and Michael Perez - Sox include Alexi

Rangers - Perez, Profar, Jackson, Odor, and Alfaro

Mariners - Seager, Paxton, Walker, and Marlette

Dodgers - Puig, Pederson, and Lee

Red Sox - Webster, Cecchini, Owens, Swihart, and Bradley

Now that Sale talks are heating up, I'd actually try to get teams in a bidding war.

Package I'd ultimately settle on, from Dbacks:

Eaton, Davidson, Owings, Bradley, Trahan, Skaggs and Delgado. Sox toss in Nate Jones.

You then hope in a few years you get this...

1B - JDA

2B - Semien

SS - Owings

3B - Eaton

LF - Hawkins

CF - Eaton

RF - Garcia

DH - Viciedo

Quintana

Delgado

Santiago/Skaggs

Johnson

Bradley

You need a God's Ransom for Sale. Nothing less.

If we can get that deal, I'll drive Sale to the airport

That looks nice on paper but in reality it's likelier that when it's all said and done Alejandro DeAza puts together a better Major League career than at least 3 of those guys.

Mom, can I borrow the car?

Huh?

Sale needs the go to the airport.

My thoughts exactly. Archie Bradley, Tyler Skaggs, Randall Delgado, Matt Davidson, Stryker Trahan, and Chris Owings gets it done for me. That's the deal. Sale is under team control for 6 more seasons. Arizona is probably unwilling to pay that price but that should be the starting point.

Possibly, but thats when you have to lean on your scouts. None of those guys are new to pro ball, all are either in the majors or fairly close (aside from Trahan I guess). Scouts opinion vary wildly on prospects, they are cost controlled lottery tickets in effect. Just depends on who you hedge your bets on.

In another thread about trading Sale I looked at the 23 year gap bewteen Black Jack and Sale. In doing so I looked at the career WAR of every pitcher taken top-100 in his class during that 23 year period. Did you know that Nate Jones right now is already among the cream of the crop of that group? Nate Jones is one of the best pitchers we have drafted in the first 100 picks in over 2 decades. And people can think whatever they want about the Sox drafting low-upside McCulloghs and Broadways and stuff, but the Sox had some VERY big arms in there which didn't turn out. Jon Rauch for example has been one of best pitchers in that period that we have drafted and developed in the last 20+ years, and that guy also ranks as one of the biggest disappointments in the Sox system.

There are what now, just like 30 rounds in the draft? How many international slots? We've got enough lottery tickets already. Don't need to trade the best asset we have had really since pre-arb Maggs at least (Sale has more value though I'm sure) and probably since Frank just to buy more lottery tickets.

Don't forget the #3 pick...Lets say its Hoffman....~3 years from now we could then be looking at...

Bradley-24

Quintana-28

Delgado- 27

Johnson-26

Hoffman-24

That pitching staff, with a much improved offense, because of the Sale trade, could put us into great position to contend. Still got guys like Santiago, Rienzo, Beck, Bassit, Danish, and Snodgress who can be traded or used to max out the bullpen.

Or it could set the Sox back about 5 years too.

It could, but I trust in the Sox ability to develop pitching.....Maybe the offensive pieces they get don't pan out (at least OWings/Davidson/Polluck or Eaton developed elsewhere), but the Sox should have plenty of depth to trade from, and some $$$ to work with.

For an outstanding haul you trade Sale.

His arm will hold up or it wont. Some people are built for that stress some people arent, point blank. The stress he puts on it, him just being what he is on the mound

And of course if the team was better it'd be a different story............but right now we have no reason to think we'll be significantly better. in the next 2-3 years we miiiiight become 'good.' Meanwhile that whole time, an ace will just sit here either being the same value or getting hurt and decreasing in value.

How would trading one pitcher off a roster of a team that lost 99 games possibly set that team back 5 years? Lets not get carried away. Sale pitches once every 5 days. I wouldn't trade him unless blown away, but all the rebuilders if they did trade him for prospects, would get their wish. The team would still be crappy, but the farm system probably goes to top 10.

I'd put it at like 5% chance Sale gets moved. Teams are pretty hesitant, generally, to give up young, very talented guys, and there is simply no need to trade Sale yet.

The problem with a Sale trade is other teams want at least a fair deal. The White Sox would want one where they didn't even have to think about it.

I hope Sale gets traded because it means the haul we're getting back is so huge, that it will go through three layers of the Front Office to actually get done. It's not like Hahn is going to hear something he likes, and hit the podium to announce it. This would have to be the hardest decision Reinsdorf has ever allowed a baseball GM to make, including firing LaRussa and trading Harold.

I'm pretty sure the point was the prospects could bust and then your screwed.
