Eaton: "It would be great if I could hang my hat around .300, 100 runs scored and an OBP around .400. I think it’s definitely doable."

Ugh, now he's throwing out projections. Kid, just go play

I agree. Do it first, then talk about it. But he apparently doesn't lack confidence.

Not from a power standpoint

FRINGE POWER! Keith Law thinks it was possible he could hit "15 plus homers" playing at the Cell. But I guess I should of stopped after "Keith Law thinks."

Probably shouldn't, the dude has a pretty good eye for talent.

I like that he's thinking in terms of on-base though. Easier said than done for guys trying to prove themselves at the highest level, yet that's his mindset. Value the at bat.

I know exactly what you mean. The usefulness of that kind of thinking is determining whether you should have been able to pull off an even better deal, though. The Pods and Vizcaino deal is our example of a deal that works out for everyone, but I think you could still legitimately question that deal on the basis that maybe we could have done even better for a premier hitter like Lee.

We also saved a lot of money in Pods/Vizcaino-Lee trade and used it to pick up AJ, El Duque, and Iguchi. 5 huge parts to winning in 2005

He's higher on Eaton than most, but in this case I hope he is right. One thing I count on him for is being rationale about starting pitchers, so many people want to anoint pitchers as "aces" or even a #2 or #3 when they pitch a couple decent games in a row.

Viciedo is absolutely part of the young core. He might flame out, but he has equally as good a chance of being a premier power hitter. He has some of the best hitting tools you'll ever see.

LOL-Viciedo has some of the best hitting tools you'll ever see. You need to watch some more baseball after making that observation.

Those aren't projections, those are goals

If he flops, you don't think anyone is going to copy and paste that quote over and over again? Put in the work each at bat, let the numbers sort themselves out. I'm glad he's cocky and I agree it's "doable," but just play the game.

People get mad when athletes don't say anything. People get mad when athletes are honest. It is what it is. I have no problem with him stating his goals.

If he can handle the added pressure and back it up, I got no problem with him telling people whatever he damn well pleases. Just seems unnecessary, IMO.

That's how I view it. A guy like this who is acquired by a team that needs that type of player should come in with goals and a positive attitude that he can make it happen.
