HuskyCaucasian
Offical from the White Sox... https://www.facebook.com/notes/chicago-whit...152464783408047 CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have acquired third baseman Matt Davidson from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for pitcher Addison Reed. Davidson, 22, batted .280 (124-443) with 32 doubles, 17 home runs, 74 RBI, 55 runs scored, a .350 on-base percentage and .481 slugging percentage in 115 games with Class AAA Reno in 2013. He was named Most Valuable Player of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field after hitting a go-ahead, two-run homer for the United States. Davidson was named a Pacific Coast League midseason All-Star and won the 2013 Triple-A Home Run Derby. “As a young, power-hitting third baseman, Matt has put up impressive offensive numbers at every stop in the minor leagues, often as one of the youngest players at his level,” said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. “We view him as potentially a middle of the order, run-producing third baseman for a long time.” Davidson also appeared in 31 games (18 starts at third base) with the Diamondbacks, hitting .237 (18-76) with three home runs and 12 RBI. He made his major-league debut on August 11 vs. the New York Mets and hit all three of his home runs in an eight-day span from September 15-22. The 6-foot-2, 225 pound Davidson entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 4 Prospect and Best Power Hitter in the Diamondbacks organization. He has been ranked among Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects each of the last three seasons, including 88th in 2013, 97th in 2012 and 99th in 2011. Davidson was a Southern League All-Star with Class AA Mobile in 2012 and a Midwest League All-Star with Class A South Bend in 2010. Davidson, who hits right-handed, is a career .268 (596-2,220) hitter with 80 home runs, 374 RBI, a .351 on-base percentage and .452 slugging percentage in 591 games over five minor-league seasons in the Arizona system. He originally was selected by the Diamondbacks with a supplemental pick (35th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Yucaipa (Calif.) High School. Reed, 24, went 5-4 with a 3.79 ERA (30 ER/71.1 IP), 40 saves and 72 strikeouts over 68 relief appearances with the White Sox last season. His 40 saves ranked fifth in the American League and were tied for the fourth-most in franchise history. Reed has gone 8-6 with a 4.17 ERA (62 ER/133.2 IP), 69 saves and 138 strikeouts in 136 career appearances over parts of three seasons with the White Sox from 2011-13. He was selected in the third round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. Edited December 16, 2013 by Athomeboy_2000
dayan024
Matt Davidson Rank: 2 (Preseason: 4) Arizona Diamondbacks ETA: 2013 Position: 3B Age: 22, DOB: 03/26/1991 Bats: R, Throws: R Height: 6' 2", Weight: 225 Drafted: 2009, 1st (35) - ARI Scouting Grades (present/future): Hit: 4/6 | Power: 5/6 | Run: 2/2 | Arm: 5/5 | Field: 4/5 | Overall: 5/6 For the early part of his professional career, Davidson was sharing third base with fellow prospect Bobby Borchering. In 2012, though, Davidson was the full-time guy at the hot corner in Double-A and Borchering eventually was traded. Davidson has the potential to be a very good all-around third baseman at the big league level in the not-too-distant future. Davidson has always had offensive upside. He has a good approach and the ball jumps off his bat, with the ability to hit the ball out of the park. There used to be more questions about his glove, but he's come a long way in that regard, with solid actions and a good arm. Diamondbacks fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer to get a glimpse of him at Chase Field. bmags
Wow. Edit: From what I'm reading the season to look at with him was when he dominated AA as a 21 year old. Edited December 16, 2013 by bmags

Ross
FanGraphs says that Davidson was Arizona's best hitting prospect: Davidson is Arizona’s best overall hitting prospect and he’s solidified his case to stick at the hot corner after spending the 2011 season split between the hot corner and first base, He still makes youthful errors at the position but he’s improved in almost every aspect, including his footwork, throwing/accuracy and range. At the plate, Davidson shows impressive gap power that should produce a plethora of two-baggers and 15-20 homers in a full season. His high strikeout totals will drag down his batting average at the big league level.

DirtySox
Love it. Relievers are largely fungible and the White Sox are pretty good at churning them out. Turning one into a potential everyday 3B position player is quite fine with me.
chw42
I liked Addison, but he did seem to wear down the past two years down the stretch (his velocity dropped 2 MPH last year). This is a good haul for him.

Balta1701
He looks to have a serious issue with strikeouts that could impact his big league performance. 109, 147, 126, 134 in full minor league seasons the last few years. That's the obvious weakness I'd say, that number goes up any higher and he's not an effective big league hitter. But he's very young for each level he's been at, so perhaps there's room for improvement also.

southsider2k5
Holy crap, that came out of no where. Now it makes sense that the Sox were still adding right handed relievers. You have to like this deal for the Sox, as now they have their 3B, and they have him under control for the next six years. All they gave up was a closer they really don't need for at least a year or two, in an organization where they pump out quality hard-throwing relievers by the bucketful. Next up Petricka? Webb? Soxfest
MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports that the Diamondbacks are close to acquiring White Sox closer Addison Reed. Matt Davidson, a promising third base prospect, is reportedly headed to Chicago. Reed saved 40 games in 2013 for the White Sox while posting a 3.79 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 72/23 K/BB ratio in 71 1/3 frames. The 24-year-old righty should do well in the ninth inning for Arizona and will maintain considerable fantasy value on a good D'Backs team. Per Rotoworld Sox sure love to trade young closers. bmags
Let's hope we get lucky (this organization deserves to be lucky IMO) and these players pan out. Hahn will have rebuilt this team with ML ready players that we'll have cost controlled. This will allow us to plug in gaps with FA.
