Sure he does, he did the same thing with Peavy. Swung and missed on the first attempt to trade for him, and told the press "we will revisit this later", and then got him a few months later

I don't see how that's "the same thing."

I know the Mariners have Japanese ownership and have wooed Japanese players in the past, but if I had to bet about being unprepared, my money is on Jack Z.

I agree here. Seems he's fired most of the people that were there for his other big signings, too.

He openly talked about trying to acquire a player. You just said that he never talks to the press about trying to acquire a player, so it must be a smoke screen

Source tells me clubs have not heard back from Tanaka & nobody knows where they stand. Most had about 60 mins to make a case. No visits.

Now this makes all of the other rumors laughable. If no one really knows where they stand, it means that all of these writers who have been deciding leaders for Tanaka have just been making s*** up.

This, combined with the tweet about a team bombing and KW's statement, is making me feel that it might not actually be just about money.

This gets more and more intriguing as it goes.

This pretty much echoes the sentiments of Hahn in his statement to the media after he met them. It also coincides with what his agent said when he said it would be confidential and negotiations kept from team to team.

If anything all this scuttlebutt shows the teams that have been putting this out are nervous. Maybe that's why you have seen report after report of a team willing to throw top dollar at him. It could really be its not about the money and teams like NY La and CHC may be throwing that out there to drive up

Prices. I don't know what to think anymore, but I agree this is intriguing to say the least.

I also would count the Cubs out if something isnt announced this weekend at Cubs fest.

This sounds more credible than anything else I've heard.

The #Cubs and #WhiteSox are both serious contenders for Masahiro Tanaka. #Yankees #Dodgers http://bit.ly/1i69tAF

Love we are hearing more and more Chicago. I would hope its cause he is warming to making this his home. And it will come down to $ over a more imediate chance of winning between the 2 CHI teams

One of the things that makes this fun is that the Cubs, Mariners, and Yankees are all under various amounts of pressure to make this move. Tanaka's lack of communication/fickleness HAS to be driving them insane. The WS, on the other hand, don't NEED him at all, and are almost certainly much more comfortable being patient.
