So he pretty much eliminated us and the D'Backs, even though I think that we're the two most likely spots for Tanaka.

I've yet to see any MLB writer state that over the last 4-5 days. As SS2K just stated, it makes little sense for why Tanaka would choose the Sox.

MLB writers don't know s*** about Tanaka, he and his camp have been silent this whole time and every "source" that has been cited so far is just the writer's excuse for making up bulls***.

I have not been following too much on the Tanaka sweepstake, but all I know that's confirmed was that we met with Tanaka in L.A. So do people really posted 125 pages of speculations when no one outside of south Chicago see us as serious contenders?

This is the point I'm trying to make, all anyone knows for sure is that we're interested in and have met with Masahiro Tanaka. That's all.

Nothing has changed so I am no sure why people's opinions are changing. I've been saying Yankees all along.

1. Yankees

2. Dodgers

3. Cubs

4. Sox

5. D-backs

My opinion hasn't changed at all. If he signed with us, it would be pretty awesome... A scary contract, but awesome. I just can't find a scenario other than "because" that makes the Sox the winners.

Yet if the MLB writers wrote that Sox has the best chance here, some people here would be creaming in their pants

It would probably mean there was a good reason to believe it, such as offering the biggest contract, or something else. Writers don't think we are leaders because there isn't a good reason for them to think we are.

When has anybody ever written that the Sox were favorites to land anybody? It certainly wasn't with Abreu, and even with Dunn it seemed like the national media kept pushing other scenarios even when it seemed obvious to everybody that he was going to the Sox.

There was always Sox buzz around Abreu. In fact before he signed, all other teams had been eliminated as where he would land, leaving only the Sox until the deal was announced.

I can't help but not see the White Sox as the favorite. If you think about the various factors that have been at play here, the White Sox lead in none of them.

-Most money? Maybe Cubs? Maybe Yankees? For sure not Sox.

-Biggest Japanese communities? LA by far. Sox lead only Arizona among leaders, I would guess.

-West Coast oriented? Better than NY, but still not LA.

-Winning World Series? Pretty much everyone except the Cubs are ahead of Sox.

Maybe they can put together some sort of a package that weaves things together, but I am just not convinced

Let's take a more in-depth look at this. Of course, some of these are speculation.

-Most money:

NYY + 5, CHC + 5, LAD + 4, CWS + 3, ARZ + 2

- Japanese communities:

LAD + 5, NYY + 4, CWS/CHC + 3, ARZ + 2

- West Coast:

LAD + 5, ARZ + 4, CWS/CHC/NYY + 1

- World Series:

LAD + 5, NYY/CWS/ARZ + 3, CHC + 2

- (Added) Pressure/How He'd Fit In/Fan Racism

CWS/ARZ + 5, LAD + 2, NYY/CHC+ 1

TOTAL

1. LAD with 21

2. ARZ with 16

3. CWS with 15

4. NYY with 14

5. CHC with 12

OK, now fix my ratings so that this can be more accurate. 1-5 scale.

You forgot the +6 for the Sox for length of Tanaka message board thread, so we win!

I have a similar feeling. The good news is that at least the Sox were in it and sounds like were competitive. That is great news moving forward because it means the Sox have some $ to spend.

I like how people keep rationalizing why LA isnt a better spot etc, just because of summers and they wont be living here in the winter anyway.

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe they want to move to the US semi-permanently and want to live in LA where it fits BOTH of their needs. Tanaka's wife is several years older, theres a chance shes running the ship.

My gut feeling is that if the money is close, hes a Dodger. LA makes sense for a lot of reasons and NL is much better for a pitcher than AL. Plus LA is spending crazy and hell likely be on a contender for most of his career.

Im sorry but outside of money, there is no good reason to pick the Cubs over the Dodgers.

Good thing you brought up Abreu and Dunn because those two are the two biggest contracts in our team history. And tanaka might end up getting more than those two contracts combined. And I believe we offered the biggest contract in Abreu's case.

Money isn't the end all be all, but judging by the figures threw out there, other teams are offering a lot more than we can. Which isn't a bad thing, I wouldn't want to see the Sox shell out CC Sabathia money on a guy who's far from a sure thing

I'm remaining optimistic amid all of these predications he is going to the Cubs. I remember when the Sox were a loooooongggg short to get Albert Belle and he came here. Wow.

Also, didn't the Sox outbid the Cubs for Fukodome and he still went to the Cubs (thankfully).

Dare to Dream, let's hope he comes to the South Side.

Bruce basically reiterating what we already know. Dont rule any of the teams out because Tanaka and his agent are basically on lock down. Says money not the ultimate deciding factor for Tanaka....points to Fukudome.

Problem with Cubs upping the bid is they may be bidding against themselves. Like Texas did with Darvish.
