witesoxfan
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Why is MLB radio saying it's down to LA, Cubs, D-backs and Yankees? Because even though there was no point to it, the White Sox already retracted their bid. (because they're stupid)

Tanaka's going to make his announcement live and start to put on a Cubs hat then say "psych" in Japanese and switch it with a Sox lid. It's gonna be so cool. I don't know.........It is a move that is done over and over again. I don't think it was meant to be a dig at Illinois, just something that creates more suspense. Because Dodgers will clear cap space for Tanaka by trading Kershaw to the Sox, effectively putting the Sox out of the race. Everybody wins. dayan024
Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 12m One official involved in the Masahiro Tanaka bidding believes the winning contract is going to fall somewhere in the six-year, $120M range. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 3m For what it's worth, plenty of the rumors -- which most believe are spurious -- have the Cubs in as the high bidder, blowing away the field. Soxbadger
That tweet is worthless. There is a huge caveat saying that its "spurious rumors", might as well go back to my talking cats. The problem is that Tanaka's camp is keeping it extremely tight to the vest and Im guessing most teams believe any sort of leak could possibly spook Tanaka. Thus there is 0 information besides speculation and rumor. The Cubs stuff doesnt make a lot of sense, they havent been blowing anyone out of the water offering contracts lately, what point would it make to do it now? What is the plan, where are they going? Itd be just sheer desperation. Pretty much seems like the writers are trying to make a story to increase clicks, and Cubs fans are the best at taking the bait. Player options for that amount of money are such a disaster no matter what. If he sucks you're saddled with 25 million. If he's good he's opting out. Nothing is likely to work out for the team. I'd go maybe one option but definitely not 2.
