Jackson did well under Coop. I was going to suggest that move earlier this offseason but didn't because I figured it would turn into this. I agree with you on something, wow.

Hell yea. He pitched his dick off for us, in a good way. I feel like he was automatic 7-8 innings of 2 run ball when we got him. Let's not forget the pressure-packed situation he was traded into. Dude manned up right out of the gate.

Yeah I understand that taking on Teahen helped them land Jackson but that doesn't mean Teahen didn't had any actual value in the deal other than that. Who knows maybe without Teahen in the deal we could have gotten more than Frasor and Stewart and maybe we just settled on that as fair for the two as a package

You could also take that as a lesson about what a bad contract can do to hamstring a team...

Kenny knew the Cards weren't going to trade Rasmus without getting EJax in the deal, so he held up the Jays with the demand of taking on Teahen's contract, and it worked. In that deal everyone won: Jays got the player they wanted without having to give up top pieces from the farm, Kenny dumped Teahen and picked up a quality (back then) prospect in Stewart plus Frasor who turned into Jaye & Webb, and the Cards of course won the World Series. Rarely do 3-ways benefit all 3 parties, but that one did.

He "held up"....meaning what; we were going to trade E Jax for a declining prospect and a middle reliever we didn't need, if not for holding out for something of at least some semblance of value? That trade would have been an utter giveaway, if not for throwing in Teahen's salary. We should have traded for Rasmus ourselves, truth be told. We didn't have a decent CF.

Stewart was already well into decline when we picked him up.

We recouped well dumping Frasor for 2 prospects who look interesting. (one does, anyway). Hope we can dump more guys this summer for interesting prospects.

I would be for signing a veteran FA pitcher to fill the mentor role that Tim Hudson did with the young Braves staff. I also think that EJ should start in AAA to get more innings in there before be promoted full time, there is really no hurry. Somebody like a Jake Westbrook, Arroyo, Harang, or Burnett. I dont anticipate they would be much more than a fifth starter, but they could help Coop in the development on the young staff.

I just don't see the point in sending Erik Johnson to AAA. He dominated both AA and AAA last year through 142 innings. He really has nothing more to prove in the minors and because the Sox aren't expected to contend this year, there is no reason not to give him a shot. I really see no point in paying somebody like Burnett or Arroyo $10 million to pitch for a non contending team while taking innings away from a pitcher who is expected to be a part of our future. Let Johnson start this year and take the bumps that are going to come during a rookie season. Then in 2015 or 2016 when the Sox are ready to contend, he will have that valuable experience from 2014 and hopefully will be ready to be a starting pitcher for a contending team.

He only had 57 innings at AAA last season, and personally I would like to see a guy start the year off dominating and then get moved up rather than starting off in the majors. If we were in win now mode, you would throw in him the rotation, but ideally I would like to see him log 100 innings in AAA (43 more this season) before making the jump, which would put him in Chicago about the beginning of June. I really think it is imperative that we handle the young core carefully and let them taste success before moving them up.

I definitely would not pay them $10M, I would give them $5-6M on a one year deal, if you can't make that deal, you don't sign one of them.

An interesting team to watch will be the Mariners as they will be signing two more guys, Rodney and Cruz, and have some pretty intriguing names on their 40 man roster when the time comes to make room for their new additions. And they are as likely a destination for ADA as anyplace else.

One more bullpen arm would be nice. A lot of inexperience in the pen right now. Maybe someone on a minor league deal that could contribute at the major league level out of spring training, maybe a Mitchell Boggs type?

Or Mitchell Boggs himself. And yes, i'm just trying to show off haha

I don't see how they'd have room for De Aza. They're already going to have to get rid of a starting position player to make room for Cruz.

DH: Hart

1B: Smoak

LF: Morrison

RF: Cruz

Though I think it would be wise to move Smoak and play Morrison at first and play Cruz in left with a Saunders/Gutierrez platoon in the outfield

In that scenario, they have to get rid of Ackley then to make room for Cruz. Then what, get rid of Saunders for De Aza? Not a chance.

Move Smoak where? Via trade? Or move positions?

I didn't say they should deal for De Aza. That was someone else. I guess Ackley still plays center in each scenario listed above.

John or Jordan? Plus Toronto does not need De Aza, they have their OF. We don't need Buehrle either in a lefty-stacked rotation.

Jordan.

I think we still need Mark for reasons specified last offseason. Veteran presence; a coach on the mound.

This is the time you catch yourself wondering what ole Hawkeroo was talking about when he said Hahn had a couple big things brewing

When did he say that?

And was this just his opinion or something? I'm not sure Hahn would be involving Hawk on anything "big" but I could see him saying something like "we're trying to trade Dunn and Keppinger" or "we need to clear up some roster room."
