Just more confused than anything. White people don't get aids?

South Africa has a high rate of AIDS, and black Africans take up a large portion of it

I'm more confused as to why I should care.

You don't have to

Seriously. People have way to much time to care if they are worried about what nobodies are saying on twitter to the point it becomes a national story. With all that is wrong in this country, put that outrage energy to positive use somewhere.

It's crazy that this girl tweeted this, took a twelve hour internet-free flight, and had no job when she got off the flight

It was kind of funny.

I don't know why people care. Is this the new qualification for self fulfilment? "I got a person fired over a tweet! #activism". If you want evidence as to why I frankly don't give a f*** about other people this is it. Our vapid internet culture attempts the lamest quests for righteous justice that wind up just being vain exclamations of how not racist they are. Give me the offensive, insensitive dickhead who says whatever he wants--theres much more pride to take in that than being one of these social justice lemmings who pounce on people over a digital medium for cracking a damn joke.

She has a history of making offensive comments through social media and her employer has warned her. She has had a pretty serious position in a major corporation. This isn't some low level cubical worker. Still the tweets that followed her while she was in the air were funny.

I take it you didn't catch the part where they stated her job at this global media conglomerate as Director of Public Relations. So you're telling me you'd rather hire someone like this to be your head of P.R.? Um, ok.

So we should all just define ourselves by our job. If your employer wouldn't like something you do in your personal life you just shouldn't do it?

Fffffuuuuuuccckkkkkkkkkk that.

If you have a bad driving record you shouldn't be driving trucks.

If you post racist tweets you shouldn't be in PR.

Most people understand that with management positions, especially senior management, comes greater responsibilities and expectations of behavior. With the six figure salary comes demands on yourself 24/7. Clearly those types of positions would not be for someone who wants to spew racist statements. They would be better off taking an entry level position without any real visibility to their company.

I've got more "broken windshield" tickets than everyone on this board combined. I change my driving habits from sub-2000 lb sports car to 80,000 lb monstrosity. I don't whip my International (no more Peterbilt, RIP buddy) around the same way I do my Miata.

There really is a huge difference between being a senior manager of a company and driving a truck. You have the perfect job if you want to make racist tweets. No one really even knows what company you work for or probably cares. That isn't the same for a very visible senior manager of one of the industry's biggest companies. Her Twitter account isn't an anonymous private account. She generally uses it as a forum to promote herself within the industry.

If you're going to make an awfully offensive joke, at least make it funny. Sheesh. I can kind of sympathize in a perverse way with a really callous joke if it is fathomably funny. This one's a s***ty joke either way. Was never worth the risk.

That's really the key. Someone like Louis ck can be incredibly offensive but hilarious

This is the best assessment.

Still have not seen why 99% of twitter accounts are needed. Few people need to have their opinions heard.

I follow a lot of random accounts that make me laugh, but people in positions of power within their companies should just shut them down. It doesn't seem like a lot of good comes of it

I lol'd. The chances of a straight, white person getting HIV are extremely slim.

The joke was in poor taste. I don't care that she was fired for it. It was still funny though.

I'm assuming you also don't go around with offensive comments/jokes plastered on the side of your truck either.
