Jose Abreu
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/four...nt-balfour.html Do we want him?

Jose Abreu
I'd prefer Jones over Balfour because I like our bullpen as is. I don't want to have to kick out a young righty to make room for Balfour.
2nd_city_saint787
If they do wanna add a closer I'd have no problem with Balfour, and I think those not wanting him because he's a douche is silly. I can care less as long as he's baking it up with good numbers, which he has.

Balta1701
If he can't pass a physical with other teams why would we think he could with us?
ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) If he can't pass a physical with other teams why would we think he could with us? Because the Orioles have a very strict physical procedure.
South Side Fireworks Man
Balfour is an unfortunate name for a pitcher.

Balta1701
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) Sure and then flip him mid season Wasn't he about to get a 3 year deal? Even if he has to take slightly less money, a multi-year deal makes that awfully tough.

elrockinMT
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 07:49 PM) If he can't pass a physical with other teams why would we think he could with us? I would like to know more about the results of that physical. What was the medical issue? Balfour's numbers were better in 2013 than Reed's. I like Jones but a proven veteran closer wouldn't be such a bad thing.

But he has had 2 doctors clear him. Would anybody be surprised if Baltimore just simply changed their minds? brian310
I saw that Mulder wants to sign a minor league deal somewhere. He grew up a Sox fan. I wouldn't mind if they brought him in on a minor league deal to compete with Veal and Leesman for the other lefty bullpen spot.
GreatScott82
Getting a proven reliever would not be a bad thing. If the Sox are out of it and Balfour is tearing it up by the midway point, then we can flip him for prospects. If something bizarre happens in the AL Central this year and the Sox find themselves in it, then you have yourself a veteran closer to compete. Sign him up! Agreed, but I heard he wants a major league deal
Kyyle23
Something similar happened with Napoli and the red sox last year, he didnt pass his first physical on a 3 year deal, then they signed him to a 1 year deal. Not sure how that worked out, if the physical was ignored or retaken or what.
Balta1701
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 24, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Agreed, but I heard he wants a major league deal Guys in their late 30's who haven't pitched in 5 full seasons can ask for major league deals all they want...yeah that won't be happening.
