One resolution

Every year people make resolutions, and fail to keep them. Sometimes minutes after the new years ball drops. I am going to share my one resolution with you guys, and if you so wish, share one of your own.

Over the last two years I have gained some unhealthy weight. I am by no means morbidly obese, but I have gained some weight that I notice every day when I see myself in the mirror. Im not going on a crash diet, but I am cutting out soft drinks, eating sugary snacks, and replacing them with fruit and veggies. I am replacing leftovers for lunch with salads, and I am going to walk a minimum one mile a day as well as start a morning excercise routine.

My father has had not one, but two triple bypasses done in my lifetime, and frankly at 35 years old that scares me. His first triple bypass was when he was 35. I dont drink much at all(he drank pretty hard), I dont smoke(he still does, at least a pack a day), and i am a lot more active at this point in my life than he ever was, but at the same time I am starting to feel effects of getting older and I am not really pleased with it. I dont want my kids to see what I saw.

I just wanted to write this down, "say it out loud" if you will, so i could go back and look at it and try and keep this resolution.

Comment if you want, make your own resolution if you want.

Any way about it, have a happy new year!

Do these three things and the weight will come off quickly and in a healthy way. You should also sign up for one of the free diet sites/apps that allow you to count calories and log what you eat every day. I signed up http://caloriecount.about.com/ for a few years ago and it (sites like it) are really good for seeing what you are eating daily and helping you make informed decisions regarding necessary nutrients (protein, vitamins, etc) that come from a balanced diet.

Good luck.

I'd like to shoot for 50 pounds by years end, even 25 would be cool. But I also realize how incredibly lazy I am. My only hope of losing weight is to get married, because I don't mind healthy food at all, I just suck at cooking and am too lazy to make anything that takes more than 5 minutes. And the quicker the meal, the more unhealthy, typically. But getting married to get in to shape is quite the Catch 22.

The better you get at cooking, the more enjoyable it is to do and you will less likely to go into "f*** it, getting fast food" lazy mode. Keep at it.

Stir-fry and crock pot recipes aka "throw meat and veggies into something hot" are easy to do, fairly healthy, and can be made in large, easy-to-reheat batches.

I was on a chicken crock pot kick for a while back in the spring, and it was fantastic, but I ate it pretty much exclusively for 3 weeks and burned myself out on it.

I do pretty well with my exercise and eating habits, but I'm bad about making sure I go to the dentist/eye doctor/general physician regularly. Had to get a root canal a few weeks ago and decided I need to deal with this stuff better in the future. Went to the eye doctor yesterday and was given two different prescriptions; one for reading/computer use and another for evening driving. Ordered some glasses online today.

I've actually never been to an eye doctor in my life.

I've been trying to slim down the last few months via more exercise and a better diet. I go through good stretches but whether it's a holiday, vacation, or fun weekend, I keep regressing to square one. Life is slowing down the next few months, so I think I can get back on the right track.

Good luck.

I've used the app My Fitness Pal for a while now. It's great for tracking calorie intake and burning. It allows you to scan the UPC on a package, and it'll automatically input the nutrition facts.

My problem is sticking with it. I'm going to start up again today and aim to start shedding some weight.
