Steve9347
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 05:37 PM) My office window faces a busy street about ½ block from a semi-busy intersection. Hearing sirens go by is very common, but today at about 3pm I heard a whole bunch of sirens and they seemed to be stopping nearby. I looked out my window and saw a s***load of ambulances and police cars. I figured it must have been a pretty bad wreck. About an hour later, I notice on a local news website that the wreck involved a police car responding to an armed bank robbery about 2 miles away and a car that failed to yield for it. About a half hour after that, my wife called me and in a very urgent voice told me I had to check out the just-released surveillance photos from the bank robbery. I'm at least 90% certain that it's our next door neighbor. That's craziness.

There's enough other stuff that goes on in Louisville that I don't think they'll find that interesting enough to trek over here for that angle. Swingandalongonetoleft
Saw a pretty big piece of debris on the road (North Ave) on my way to work today. Called the PD to report it and was told they'd take care of it. 2 hours later, still there. Guess they're too busy keeping the roads safe via speed traps. It's completely understandable, though- a chunk of metal probably wouldn't be able to fund the Chargers they roll around in out here.

A cop could remove it himself if he saw it (or sit behind it with the lights on if it's too big for an individual to move), but he also is probably more likely already assigned to another job, like people calling for actual police service. And if the police were assigned to the job, it's OEMC that decides the order in which jobs are given out. The vast majority of districts are working with a backlog of jobs. There are people constantly clogging up the system with calls just like this (non-police, non-emergency jobs) all the time, not to mention the serious calls where people are in immediate danger that OEMC jumps to the top of the list, as they should. Swingandalongonetoleft
^ I called non-emergency. I would have happily taken it to someone else if the receptionist who answered had directed me elsewhere instead of telling me they'd take care of it. I know I've heard before on more than one occasion that something like this is precisely what the non-emergency line is for. This isn't something I'd usually do; normally I'd probably just warn someone if I knew they would be driving that way similarly to how I'd warn someone if there is a speed trap. It looked like it could do some good damage if someone happened to catch it- no one wants that...

The person you talk to is OEMC, and if that person does their job correctly, it gets dispatched to Streets and San. It probably never even passed through the police department. So I googled "Bank robbery suspect apprehended in louisville" and came up with a story about Benjamin Boswell, is this the guy? http://www.wave3.com/story/24834959/jeffer...d-in-louisville Did you know the guy outside of the fact that he is your neighbor? This has been crazy to watch this unfold from you saying "I think it's my neighbor" to confirming "it is my neighbor." I realize that y'all weren't good friends or anything, but I can't even imagine if the dude who lived next to me all of a sudden was on the local news for robbing a bank. Well, from the original bank photos I was 95% it was him, but then the news story last night about his arrest included his van so that pretty much made it 100%. As I said earlier, I'm surprised they still haven't searched his house.

witesoxfan
I think the plan was probably to make the heist, get out of Dodge, and assume new identities hopeful that the feds never track you down. You assume the chances of that happening are low, but I wonder what your odds actually are of getting away with that (no, I'm happy with my current life and do not want to rob a bank, leave town, and assume a new identity).
