Tim Anderson, SS, White Sox

It’s early in his developmental journey and the tools are still raw, but Anderson’s athleticism and physical gifts could make him a high-impact prospect in the minors, the kind that sits atop a team list and warrants placement in the upper tiers of the overall class. Sources are mixed on his long-term home on the diamond, with the speed and instincts to patrol center if the hands don’t end up playing at short. But the bat could be a lot more explosive than some might realize, with easy plus raw power that might be slow to find its way into game action but should get there eventually.

I like the collection of tools we are bringing in. Hopefully we have better luck at developing them. Seeing a guy like Marcus Semien repeat last years success would go a long way towards making me feel better about how our farm system is progressing.

We will be graduating EJ and Davidson (most likely Semien too), but if Hawkins and Anderson have breakout years they both could easily be in the upper tiers of prospects next off season. I would also hope that whoever we take at #3 will be in that mix as well.

Basically, our top 3 (EJ, Davidson, Semien) should graduate. The #3 pick and hopefully our 2nd rounder should replace them in our top 5. Would be really nice to have Anderson have a season that shows his potential along with a guy like Barnum or Michalczewski breaking out.

I agree that combined with who we get when we unload from the likes of De Aza, Ramirez, Beckham and Dunn in that order will go a long way, strong possibility we're looking at a mid ranked farm system(13-18) next year.

I think the biggest thing that could get the farm stronger is the development of some of the LatAm bonus babies. We've spent a couple years now dramatically increasing spending down there, and will do so again this July. There are 5 or 6 guys we already signed that are just starting DSL ball, or will be soon, that should be reaching state-side affiliates in 2014 and 2015.

This is where we should be seeing the added value of Marco Paddy, if it indeed exists.

This isn't entirely relevant to this thread, but probably not deserving of its own thread either, so I'll just drop it in here.

I don't want to start a panic, but the #WhiteSox are #19 on my preliminary sketch of all farm systems. I'm sober. I promise.

I was just about to post this. I had a conversation with Parks and this is what he has said so far.

@ProfessorParks I definitely agree with you with them. What do you think of Hawkins, Barnum and Andrew Mitchell?

@3G_Gajewski18 Mitchell has improved, I'm surprised to say. Hawkins will get better in 2014. Barnum might not. Bad profile. Power or bust.

Garrett Gajewski ‏@3G_Gajewski18 2m

@ProfessorParks Yeah, I still have some hope for Barnum because injuries has plagued him. Hahn has done a great job this off season & draft

@3G_Gajewski18 Agree. Hahn has been crushing it. Loved the Eaton pickup.

@ProfessorParks me too. What did you think the move for Davidson and signing of Abreu? And what you think of Rule 5 pick Adrian Nieto?

Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks 1m

@3G_Gajewski18 I'm not as high on Davidson, but power bats at 3B are valuable commodities.

If/when he does respond, it will likely be loving Davidson, liking Abreu but not sure overall just due the size of the contract and the profile of Abreu as a 1B, non-athletic player, and a large amount of indifference on Nieto because it's a Rule 5 pick and Rule 5 picks are always so meh.

Not as high on Davidson but said power bats at 3B are valuable commodity. Didn't say anything about Abreu or Nieto but he likes our system and says improving as you can see about the tweets we had back and forth. I'm very excited for this upcoming season, both in the majors and minors.
