ChiSox_Sonix
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) That's the only market the team that runs that conference cares about. Well if they care more about the market, there's UTEP in western Texas, New Mexico, and maybe UNLV/Nevada they could go after. I think they should look into Utah/BYU/Boise and then a 4th to get to 14 teams

cabiness42
Independence is going to be a disadvantage in the playoff era, so joining a power 5 may influence them a bit Also remember that if you invite BYU to join for all sports, you are committing to having schedules in every sport that do not have games against BYU, or potential games against BYU (conference tournaments) on Sundays. They just want to be in a power conference.
cabiness42
They don't want to be independent in football anymore. They just want to be in a power conference. Would the Big 12 invite BYU as a football-only member? That might work out well for both parties. All the other sports don't really need more members and don't need long trips to Provo. Heads22
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Baylor plays KState and TCU plays Iowa State. I wonder how much the final season game TCU plays will hurt them (this of course is making the assumption that both of those teams win). You also have to look at someone like OSU and whether they could leapfrog TCU with a big win. HEY I TAKE OFFENSE TO THAT WE BEAT A DAMN GOOD IOWA TEAM
Heads22
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Hopefully the Big 12 realizes they need to expand to 12. BYU should obviously be the top candidate. Not really sure after that. Central Florida is way out of the footprint but otherwise makes sense, and West Virginia is in there anyways. UCONN is way way out of the footprint. Cincinnati is quality but it's a city school in Ohio. Doesn't exactly match what they're going for. Still probably the best option after BYU. Don't need to. Will only expand if another school adds revenue to everyone else. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) What about Houston? No QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) I've heard SMU as a logical choice though it wouldnt be for their football team at the moment. Double no --- Bowlsby has said that he sees no possible candidates, short of a school coming back.

No Any new school would have to be worth something like 30 million a year. Expansion only happens if ESPN/FOX say it has to, or if they playoff makes it necessary. Since the Big 12 is the closest to having two teams in the playoffs, I think they aren't in any rush.

It's a true rivalry game where the relative quality of the two teams rarely seems to make a difference. I think the sarcasm was fairly obvious there. That game is played in November and Iowa wins by two scores. As it was, ISU probably should have won by more that day.
