And I put all the facts I had out there too, yet the committee just seems to be making it up as they go.

Long: "The fact there were co-champions in the Big 12 had no bearing on the decision."

Stewart Mandel @slmandel · 2h 2 hours ago

Long on Big 12: "We were presented with co champions. In the other situations, we had definitive champions for that conference."

The conference title game was huge like I said. The sos was second like I said. And the vote wasn't close. I respect you riding the horse till it bucked you, but it was pretty clear.

Apparently I missed some major writing on the wall. The Buckeyes make sense, still shocked by Baylor jumping TCU, but guess I have 365 days to learn the system for next year. :D

Illinois vs. Louisiana Tech in Dallas. Kenneth Dixon will run for 200 yards minimum

Yet had FSU or OSU lost yesterday, Baylor would have benefited from NOT having a title game.

Everyone is talking about The Big 12 going to a title game. I think it's a worthwhile gamble to not have one. For instance, if Ohio State and Florida State lose this weekend, Baylor and TCU probably both get in giving the Big 12 the chance to be represented twice. With a title game, you are only being represented once. Now would you rather have the title game and most likely put 1 representative in the tournament most years or would you gamble that you may have 2 undefeated teams or 1 loss teams at some point in which you have two representatives? I think the conference could decide to continue to not have a title game.

Had Baylor played teams better than SMU (1-11 playing in the AAC), Northwestern St. (6-6 playing in FCS) and Buffalo (5-6 playing in the MAC), Baylor would have benefited from NOT having a title game.

Then again, the odds go way up that they lose a second game playing good teams.

You don't even have to play good teams. Play teams that go 8-4 in the MAC or Sun Belt or 6-6 in the ACC or AAC. That boosts your schedule strength without creating a high risk of losing.

Its stated pretty clearly on the playoff committee site that the extra title game weighs more than a regular season champ. So its not really to their advantage if all things are equal.

At the end of the day a nationally recognized program led by a coach who is also a national recognizable figure in a conference that while on the field may not be spectacular, is still the most powerful NCAA conference was chosen.

The merits of TCU, Baylor and OSU can be discussed but the overriding thing is the history of the Big Ten and OSU v. the history of TCU and Baylor as well as the Big 12's situation.

Very different story if this was OU or Texas..

Comes down to ratings and ticket sales in a new environment.

Do you think the committee ranks a 2-loss Wisconsin or GA Tech team higher than 1-loss Baylor and TCU simply because they won a conference title game (hypothetically)?

If all other things are even, yes. But they wouldnt be most likely.

The NCAA is going to force the Big 12 to have a championship game, its going to happen.

Preseason AP Poll:

1. FSU

2. Alabama

3. Oregon

4. Oklahoma

5. Ohio State

Ignoring the overreaction to Oklahoma's bowl win, the 4 teams that were supposed to make it to the end did. I doubt that happens very often.

That's also before Ohio State lost their QB. Vegas dropped them to 50:1 for a brief time following that. They're awfully exposed with the Buckeyes right now

The Big 12 has petitioned for the right to have a championship game with only ten members. I'm not sure why the NCAA would force them to. The NCAA doesn't run the College Football Playoff.

Yeah well they will have to add 2. IMO I think the Big 12 will be absorbed by the other power 4 at some point to make it 4 majors.

They don't have to do anything, and they remain a viable conference as long as Texas and Oklahoma want to stay put.

And I finally saw statistical support of Tevin Coleman being more productive than Melvin Gordon, so the eye test was true.

Not sure you can blame Gordon for the OSU game.

Gordon is better than Coleman, Gordon is one of the best rbs Ive ever seen in college. By far best Wisconsin back.

I agree with you. I've seen both play multiple times and I think Gordon is better. Coleman is good though.
