So, statistically, Cutler's season was virtually identical to Phil Rivers. Rivers threw for 17yds/game more, but the rest is pretty similar (including tying for most INTs).

Rivers choked away a playoff birth against a Chiefs team that was completely beat up. Yet, Rivers is a media darling. He's a great leader, teammate, husband, father,....

So much of the analysis of these players is based on media perception of their personalities. I'm not making excuses for Cutler. I don't have much confidence in him, but I wouldn't have much confidence in anyone not named Brady or Rodgers.

Either that or the counting statistics aren't the only/best way to evaluate QB performance

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 09:24 AM)
Hub said last night he would be shocked if Brandon Marshall comes back. Said he was a cancer in the locker room. Another short honeymoon.

No surprise there. You knew it when they traded for him. Only question was how long would he last until the drama started. The answer was about 2.5 seasons.

Probably true, but if you can trade him for picks and try to find a QB for the future in the draft, or find some journeyman until next year's draft and put that money in other places, I think you do it.

To get a good future QB, 5-11 wont cut it. They need to go 2-14 or trade up.

There have been a number of good QBs taken after pick 7 in the draft the last 5+ years and several taken in the top picks with major issues (Bradford, RG3). Obviously the biggest recent success was a #1 pick, but take a look around. Last year's super bowl QB was a 3rd round pick. The year before that you had Flacco vs. Kaepernick. 2 of the best QBs in the league, Rodgers and Brees, were late first rounders. Last year only 1 QB went in the top 7 and he might not even be the best of last year's class, I'd say Bridgewater outplayed him.

Brees was actually a 2nd rounder, but your point stands.

2nd pick of the 2nd round, my memory was off by like 3 picks, I thought he went 29. Dah well.

Wasnt brees a product of the Eli Manning trade?

just curious, i know it all happened around the same time

During appeal, Ndamukong Suh said his feet were numb from cold and he couldn't tell difference between Aaron Rodgers' feet and the ground.

Hmm. I wonder why they didnt ask him "why didnt you react when Rodgers was screaming for you to get off of his leg and slapped you on the leg?"

Bears GM/Head coach search is being aided by a group that features Accorsi, Bill Polian, Charlie Casserly, Ron Wolf, Tony Dungy, John Madden, Dennis Green, and Carl Peterson.

With that wealth of football knowledge I can't see Ted and company going against the reccomendations of those guys. I am now of the belief that the bears will hire the right guy at both spots.

Hopefully while working with Polian they can convince him to stay in the organization.

I dont think that entire group is aiding the bears. I think it is just accorsi, because Polian is negotiating returning to Buffalo, Wolf and Casserly are assisting the Jets. Doesnt make a lot of sense to have all of these guys doing multiple GM searches for multiple teams

I just hope while they narrow the coaching candidates down and move forward on both fronts, the GM is brought in first and allowed to finalize the process (maybe with a list of final 3 candidates, etc). I like that we appear to be moving much much more aggressively in years past. I also don't see Bears brass not going with the recommendations of the panel.

It was 28 degrees in Green Bay on Sunday and probably 35 on the field, plus he was active and sweating. That's the biggest load of bulls*** I've ever read.

Where did you hear/see this? I dont think that consultants would be helping multiple teams at the same time.

There's an ESPN article about it that I can't post from my tablet. Those guys form a group called NFL Career Development Advisory Panel. Our boy Ted talked about being able to consult with not only Accorsi but the other members of the panel as well.

Maybe that doesn't include the guys you mentioned though.

They should consult with Tony Dungy as to how best to convince Tony Dungy to coach the Bears.

It was actually Vick. Sd traded down from 1 and turned out a draft of Tomlinson and Brees

Thats right. I knew they had two bigtime picks trading down, and Brees was an almost-first rounder

Agreed. Manziel Jr. Just a big headache.

That's not fair to Manziel. Johnny Football isn't a bad dude. He's immature and a bit of a punk sometimes. He likes to party and do what every 21 year old kid likes to do. Winston on the other hand is a (probable) rapist, stole from a grocery store, shoved a ref on the field, etc. By all accounts, he thinks he's above the law. Manziel hasn't done any of that type of stuff.

In answer to Balta's original question: no, I would not want Winston at all. I would find him incredibly hard to root for because of the off-the-field stuff, which is unfortunate because I think he's very good on the field.
