Jay has a larger cap hit than all of the best QBs in the league this year. Next year his cap is $1.5M less than Aaron Rodgers. That means he has to be absolutely fabulous or the team has to be lucky and get production for less-than-market-value from other positions. We're getting less than what we paid for from Jay, evidenced by the fact that every team with a better QB is taking a smaller cap hit

Yeah, that guy is incredible.

If I'm building a franchise, I'm still building it around Rodgers. Rodgers has had to literally put an entire team on his back and win. Wilson has a beast of a rb and an exceptional defense that allows him to do a lot of things. Rodgers might have some wideouts but his line has generally been bad and he's pretty much had no running game most of his time in GB. He also has had, outside of a couple years, a horrendous defense.

PS: I like Wilson a lot but he's not at the same level as Rodgers / Luck. Both of those guys are running my franchise before Wilson, although Wilson is pretty high on my list of guys I'd take for QB if I were to build a franchise.

I've been very slow to jump on the Wilson bandwagon, given the quality of his team's roster and how much less he has to throw than the other top QBs. But everytime I watch him play, I become more and more impressed with him. He's legit and he costs less than a million dollars each of the next two years.

One day he is going to get paid big time. When that happens the Seahawks won't have the same defense they have now, it will be interesting to see how good Wilson is when he has to be the one to win most games.

I like him more now, but I still don't think he is a top 5 qb in the league, probably top 10.

Cap hit is a brutal way to judge players in the NFL. There is so much manipulation of those numbers based on teams situations at the time.

Hard to say, because he also doesn't really get the opportunities that those guys do.

But I'll take him over Luck all day, every day.

You know who I like and think is underrated, Alex Smith. He'd have been the type of guy that would have been a nice fit in Trestman's offense. I'm not writing off Jay yet but Bears obviously need to hit on the talent devlopment part. That is somewhere we have sucked and have started to see some offensive talent development and now need to see it on the defensive side. I really like Fuller and our young DT's. They all look like players.

He would have been great for Forte, I don't think Marshall and Alshon would like Alex at all.

That's a toss up for me at the moment. Like I said last year, if I'm starting a team then Rodgers, Wilson and Luck are my top 3 in some order.

I think Wilson has some intangibles and some leadership qualities that are off the charts. Luck does as well, and Rodgers, to a lesser degree also, but Wilson is just the perfect young team leader. Does and says all the right things...in fact, says the perfect things. He's such a perfect combination of athleticism and ability to throw out of the pocket...I dunno, I can understand folks liking others better...those are reasonable arguments.

But for my money, it's Wilson.

I don't know why, most everything we've ran for them the past few weeks has been relatively short. He's good at getting ball out quickly, mobile with his feet, and pretty smart, etc. I'm not saying we should trade Jay, not at all, just saying that in another planet, had Jay not been with Bears when we hired Trestman, Smith really is an excellent fit to be a QB in a west coast offense.

PS: You haven't exactly seen us throw the ball down field a lot, which is relatively typical of a true west coast offense. That said, we did it a lot last year and I still don't understand why we aren't doing it this year.

There was a stat Sunday that showed Bears are last in the league in play attempts greater than 20 yards or something along those lines.

This is also about the time of year where Jay gets hurt and misses a few games.

Yeah, I think we have one play longer than 20 yards or something ridiculous like that.

I also don't think that stat is on Jay. That is the exact opposite of his DNA / Nature. I realize some was probably due to some injuries. I think a big problem has been the lack of time Jay had to work with the majority of our secondary wideouts. He's thrown 2 picks in the direction of Holmes, who he doesn't appear to have a good rapport with yet (understandably) and Morgan was in / out and that was one of the picks (GB game) and to be frank a lot of coaches will tell you when it comes to a slant, it is the wideouts job to win the coverage, etc, and I had heard a commentary saying that pick was more on the wideout then Jay and Trestman / Jay have both talked about how it was the right read, blah blah blah and the DB made a great play. Either way, its pretty apparent that Jay had a whole offseason where he spent the bulk of the time with Wilson (IR - Temp), Alshon, B, and MartyB and the rest of our wide outs are kind of running around and our big negative plays that have led to picks have been focused in the area of those two (with exception of the 2 picks that were poor routes on B/MartyB and the pick this week that was forced to B).

I want a QB who can actually throw down-field and be good at it.

Smith rarely throws the ball farther than 15 yards (before the catch is made that is).

Honestly Jay would still be frustrating but I have to think if we hired Bruce Arians rather than Trestman we would be talking about a 4-1 team right now. I haven't seen 60 minutes of inspired football from a Trestman team. It is always 2 quarters that are sometimes good enough to win. I still think of what was a tremendous coaching class that year we picked wrong. I've lost all faith that Trestman can run a team. As Thibs growls, they have enough to win. They aren't though.

Arians was my choice...I do like Trestman...but I just see sort of the same thing I saw from Lovie...genius on his side of the ball, but not really able to provide the whole package of leadership needed out of a HC.

Why is Holliday available? That guy was electric as a return man in Denver, did he get hurt?

Btw, SS2k5 every time i click on that link about signing a rookie safety, it brings me to the front page of the trib

I edited my post... Yes, he was dealing with hamstring problems and was put on IR. I'm assuming if he's working out for teams that the hammy must be feeling better.

He has fumbled 11 times in the past two years.

Yikes.

Yeah, an incredibly explosive return man but are the good returns worth the negative plays?

Considering we are getting negative plays with bad returns, how much worse could we be?
