gatnom
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) Sshhh, don't ruin their dream of equating a predominantly Irish Catholic universities mascot wildly popular with midwestern Irish families of being entirely the same as one of the most racist owners of the 20th century naming his team the Redskins. Doesn't stop it from being racist. Redskins is definitely over the line, though.

Jenksismyhero
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Preston_Marshall Wikipedia entry for Marshall has an entire heading devoted to "Racism." Interesting tidbits: "The Bears are front-runners. Quitters. They are not a second-half team, just a bunch of cry-babies." Marshall said this after the Redskins beat the Bears on a disputed call during the regular season in 1940. It helped motivate the Bears to beat Washington in the 1940 NFL Championship Game 73–0, a score which remains the NFL record for a shutout. Marshall gained a measure of revenge for the 1940 humiliation two years later, when the teams again met in Washington for the 1942 NFL Championship Game. It was reported in the Whittingham book that his pre-game "pep talk" consisted solely of writing "73-0" on the locker room's chalkboard. The Redskins defeated the Bears 14-6, handing the Chicagoans their only defeat of the season.

TE recently seems to be a position of almost natural talent as opposed to developed skill. As a move/receiving tight end, yes, I think you are looking for talent there, but defenses will recognize that as a slow slot receiver and adjust. The true talents are those that can block too, and a lot of that is developed skill. That's what makes Witten and Gronk such special players. But I wouldn't say defenses have figured out who to place on these 6'6 faster than linebacker TEs.

He had a job that was largely thankless and overlooked, but he did it very well for a very long time. I don't think he was overlooked, he was one of the most popular bears players. I'm not that sad, i'd love if we could find a longsnapper that is a legitimate backup. Last year we had 2 players whose sole worth was special teams (Hester/Mannelly)
