lord chas
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 08:00 AM) So the referees for the gold medal game are 3 Canadians and one American who lives in Calgary. How can anyone think that's a good idea?
whitesoxfan99
Poor effort by Patrick Kane on a penalty shot that would have put the US up 1-0 in the bronze medal game.
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) Poor effort by Patrick Kane on a penalty shot that would have put the US up 1-0 in the bronze medal game. He's been kinda quiet during the Olympics. Had some chances, but hasn't got on the board. saving them for the NHL playoffs I hope.

RockRaines
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) He's been kinda quiet during the Olympics. Had some chances, but hasn't got on the board. saving them for the NHL playoffs I hope. He was most of their attack vs Canada. It seemed at times like his line mates didn't know how to play with him. He's kind of unorthodox.
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) He was most of their attack vs Canada. It seemed at times like his line mates didn't know how to play with him. He's kind of unorthodox. Sometimes you just have to let him skate around with the puck and do his thing. Not easy for the other Americans since they are all used to having the puck.

Not easy for the other Americans since they are all used to having the puck. He will drop a pass behind him and they don't expect it and overskate it. He's had the puck again a ton today. zenryan
And the Olympic run comes to a crashing halt. Happy for Tuukka. Go Sweden.
LittleHurt05
This result isn't that surprising. The Finns are much happier with a bronze, while the game vs Canada was the most important for the US. Good for old man Teemu. Hopefully Kaner explodes on the NHL when he gets back after this tourney. I thought the USA played hard early, had some good chances (including the first penalty shot for Kane) but then once Finland scored they had a huge let down and have been thoroughly outplayed since. The Finland-Sweden game is just as big as the US-Canada game in Europe. Seems like over in Europe, getting a medal is the goal in these tournaments. Over here its about beating individual teams. Beat Russia, defeat Canada. But let's not act like this team just rolled over from the start today. It just got away from them in the 3rd. They couldnt score yesterday and so it's not shocking that they didnt do much vs Rask. They didnt look great offensively vs Russia either. zenryan
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) I thought the USA played hard early, had some good chances (including the first penalty shot for Kane) but then once Finland scored they had a huge let down and have been thoroughly outplayed since. Kane scores on his second penalty shot and this game probably takes on a whole different life. I think that was the back breaker emotionally for the team. LittleHurt05
In 5 Olympics with NHL players the medal count goes: Finland 4 (1 S, 3 B) Canada 3 (2 G, 1 G/S) Sweden 2 (1 G, 1 G/S) Czech Rep 2 (1 G, 1 B) USA 2 (2 S) Russia 2 (1 S, 1 B)

SoxAce
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) This result isn't that surprising. Not at all. Especially when you had guys like Orpik, Brown, Faulk and Wheeler picked from the start. Just terrible.
LittleHurt05
Nick Backstrom came down with migraines before the game so Sweden is now missing their top 3 centers. Down 2-0 and not gonna be easy to come back. I love all the pictures of Canadians waiting in line outside bars in the cold at 4 am. Crazy bastards. LittleHurt05
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) Canada has gotten better every game in the tournament. They are downright dominant right now. They are just shutting everything down defensively. Only 3 goals given up in the tourney with five minutes to go. Backstrom tested positive for a banned substance, that's why he's out today. It could just be something from an allergy medicine, but wow. LittleHurt05
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) They were coached beautifully throughout the tournament. Lots of adjustments that worked. Good job. Best team won IMO. Yup. Obviously they are the most talented team, but you don't win on talent alone, and they just did everything right. Most importantly, zero injuries to Blackhawks. Edited February 23, 2014 by LittleHurt05
zenryan
The only time a Canadian based hockey fan can celebrate winning a championship is once every four February's.
