The rest of his peripherals are good, his BB rate is excellent, and yeah, I'm sure he could improve.

I love the low walk rate which shows he throws strikes but also explains the bombs too. Just don't see that going over well at US Cellular.

It does make me wonder why they signed Arroyo who also throws strikes and gives up bombs. I would have stuck with Delgado but I guess they will use Delgado as #6 starter? I suppose Arroyo is an improvement but at age 36, for how long? Costly too compared to Delgado.

The same reason they traded young prospects for Trumbo and Addison Reed, they want to win now. Odds are Arroyo performs better than Delgado in 2014, that's what they care about

Yeah, its just that Arroyo is on the down slide while it would appear Delgado should continue to improve given his young age. Arroyo could buy time so Bradley isn't rushed since two years of Arroyo is a shorter commitment than a few other FA pitchers we all know the names of.

If Paulino makes a full recovery & still has this kind of stuff: http://m.mlb.com/video/v21496783/balkc-pau...ut-frames-vs-os then we don't need another SP, but I wouldn't bet on that.

Delgado shouldn't be all that pricey IMO. Controllable too. Keep him until Beck is ready, reevaluate after.

Really what it all boils down to is what Coop and all the other "Powers that be" think of Paulino. Doesn't really matter if we don't think he can do it, if the Sox think he can be "that guy" then they should/will give him every chance to do so. With all the additions they've made to the pen I don't think there plan for him is to be a bullpen arm.

If the Sox wanna acquire another SP I think it should be a guy like Surkamp who offers some upside and they can stash in AAA. What's the Charlotte rotation look like anyway? Surkamp, Rienzo, Leesman, ?, ?....Axelrod was resigned wasn't he?

Just turned 24, RH, cost controlled until 2019, tremendous change up, throws strikes, but a straight low 90's sometimes mid 90's fastball (leads to the homeruns) not a great upside (although sox don't need that with him, just a solid #4 which is what I see him becomming).

Decent write up today about finding the next Clay Buchholz from Eno Sarris of fangraphs though..

I'd take Delgado in a heartbeat.

Sadly, it'd likely cost you Jones who can net much more at the deadline.

I'd offer up Lindstrom/Petricka/Molina for him. De Aza as well if they'd take De Aza/need a fourth OF (no idea if they do).

Yeah I have too much confidence in Jones' ability as a closer to trade him now. Let him rack up saves for a season and then shop him over the offseason.

Ideally, Jones racks up saves this year, posts nice peripherals, gets a team-friendly contract, then shortly after is traded for a high-quality position player or SP prospect, with Webb taking over and another young guy stepping into Webb's former role. Rinse & repeat.

On a team that is ready to compete, you would like established high leverage relievers. But on a rebuilding team there is no real point to have a pitcher for the sake of having an closer. Hopefully Nate Jones and Webb pitch in the post season for us.

I watched some videos on Delgado and I admit I like what I had seen. Fastball has decent sink with a little velocity and a pretty good change. I really didn't see any curve balls thrown though. I know AZ wants to keep him but after watching more videos on him I would take him depending on what it would cost the Sox. I doubt the Sox would give up anything AZ would want.
