Dick Allen
QUOTE (flavum @ May 8, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) Yankees will retire Joe Torre's number 6 on August 23, before a game with the White Sox. The New York Daily News welcomed the hiring of Torre with a huge headline that said, "CLUELESS JOE." The subhead read, "Torre Has No Idea What He's Getting Himself Into." It referenced a column written by Ian O'Connor in which O'Connor said that Torre "came across as naïve at best, desperate at worst." Wrote O'Connor, "It's always a sad occasion when man becomes muppet." I guess he was better than at least one writer thought.

Brian
Torre was coming off a few awful years with St Louis, so I can see where NY was skeptical but that base always goes off the deal end too soon.

He could, but I think he's going to be better than that. 16 wins. ERA under 3.50.

Except they're going to want to dump Uggla back on the White Sox in return. In order for us to take on that salary commitment, we'd have to get a huge prospect in return...because 2B is really the last position we need a veteran, with Beckham/Semien/Garcia/Keppinger/Carlos Sanchez/Micah Johnson all capable of playing there. Ha, maybe I did. That's just how Mark rolls though. He has some starts where he is unhittable, then he hits a patch where he is just a tad bit off and serves it on a platter. Come September he is at 200 IP, about a 4.00 ERA, slightly above .500 like clockwork.

caulfield12
Eaton has been injury-prone and Davidson's causing alarm bells to go up. Garcia's on the shelf. It's not like we're really winning ANYTHING right now, except for the Abreu Lottery.

caulfield12
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) They got rid of Santiago just in time. But can't you say the same for Eaton, if you're a GM and you're concerned he can't stay healthy (see Quentin, Carlos)? Or Davidson, if you're concerned he's going to strike out too much at the upper levels of the minors/AAAA/MLB?

Or Davidson, if you're concerned he's going to strike out too much at the upper levels of the minors/AAAA/MLB? What does Davidson have to do with Santiago? I do agree the rate he is fanning in AAA seems to imdicate they dumped him in the nick of time. But Hahn should be looking at doing time for the Eaton trade. caulfield12
Danks, Floyd and Ramirez didn't have anything to do with that? The Quentin trade was a good one, but not an all-time steal like it seemed the first season for Quentin in a Sox uniform. And let's not forget that his own temper also managed the sabotage that season, just as much as the first 5 months were MVP caliber. Jake
How is Eaton injury prone? He never missed a game until he tore his UCL (Tommy John ligament). Near-zero risk of reinjury there for non-pitcher. This is the first concern with legs and it looks like a rather minor injury at that

That's never a good thing for a player whose game is based almost completely on speed and hustle.
