MnSoxFan
He is in Baton Rouge, on LSU roster as a LB. He has left the Barons, guess will have to find out if for sure or not quitting, but rumor is he has to have Tommy John surgery and would be out all year next year anyway. Chisoxfn
Wow. I wonder if West was pitching hurt (Before he went on the DL) cause over the past year to year and a half his numbers have constantly gotten worse. The guy is big though so I wish him luck at football.

It it simply because he earned it playing another sport?

MnSoxFan
Yes, Trajan Langdon for Duke, the kid from Alaska earned money playing minor leagues for Padres, and still played bball at Duke. Many others have done this, he could not play baseball for LSU, but that would be mute point anyway since they have a good team. He truly disappointed after a solid start a couple years ago. Ya, I remembered him when I was typing it. I also remember this kid at Colorado who was a professional snowboarder and they said he'd have to quit during his time at the Unviversity if he wanted to play football. I thought it was a bunch of crap, since he wasn't making money on the collegiate sport he was playing. For pete sakes it was a job that the kid had. Ya, he was an athlete, but he wasn't making the money as a football player.

The NCAA has a rule against having a job during the season of the sport you are playing. It was designed so that boosters could not give guys jobs they didn't need to show up for and pay them for it. I don't know all the details, but the NCAA hasn't been too willing to make any exceptions.

MnSoxFan
My guess is Cerbaho figures we would not miss West, so decided to not say anything, that would be my guess to what was going on. Since Bullard and West are friends probably best we keep that stuff out of the threads, but West did go downhill the past 2 years. Lucky chance I saw him on roster Rex, just a lucky chance. Chisoxfn
He was on the DL at the time, Jim. Plus bittner isn't really a big time prospect, imo. He could definately turn it on, but he's a fringe guy at this point in time. West has a very high ceiling, but injuries obviously have bothered him to the point that he wants to pursue something else.

Al Lopez Ghost (old)
In 1999 the Sox loaded up on pitching in the draft. They took 6 of the first 66 players drafted, and they chose all pitchers. The ones I remember were Danny Wright, Rob Purvis, Jason Stumm and Brian West. Certainly Wright has panned out, but otherwise, another s***ty draft considering the opportunity they had.

That just goes to show you how difficult it is evaluating young talent. It is hard enough being accurate once they get into the Minor Leagues, let alone straight out of HS or college. MnSoxFan
Rauch, Stewart, Ginter, Sanders, Valentine (I think), McWhirter, Bajeneru, Malone, Ulacia and Curreri also from that draft still with the org. (cept Valentine of course)
