southsider2k5
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10638900...head?src=mobile GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman is undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone above his left eye but has no other serious injuries after being hit in the face by a line drive during a spring training game Wednesday night. More from ESPN.com The line drive that Aroldis Chapman took off the face will only serve to reignite the pitcher safety debate, writes Buster Olney. Story You hope Aroldis Chapman will be OK to pitch as soon as possible, but your first thoughts go to those pitchers hit in the head by line drives, writes David Schoenfield. Story SN: Do pitchers need safety headgear? Team doctor Timothy Kremchek called Chapman "a very lucky guy.'' Kremchek said a metal plate will be inserted in the bone and will remain there permanently. He says Chapman has a very mild concussion but no other brain injuries and no injuries to his eye. Reds manager Bryan Price says Chapman was "feeling better, awake and able to communicate." "I'm optimistic he'll be on the mend and, following the process as we get more familiar with the injury itself, hopefully see him here pretty soon," Price said, adding that he's not "focusing on situation with the bullpen right now." Kansas City's Salvador Perez lined Chapman's 99 mph fastball into the pitcher's face in Wednesday night's game. Chapman collapsed to the ground, moaning in pain and kicking his feet, then was taken off the field on a stretcher. Catcher Brayan Pena was with Chapman on Thursday morning and said the pitcher was in good spirits.

ptatc
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) His stapled head. GAH It's cool how they peel the skin from above to get access to the forehead to put the metal plates in. I've had a few soccer players who needed it and got to watch a couple of the surgeries.
