Adam Dunn appears to be back!

It appears that Adam is back and will be a key component to our playoff push in 2014. I'm wondering if we should negotiate a new deal now before he posts a 35 HR / 100 RBI season and drives his asking rate through the roof. I'm thinking that Hahn should offer a deal now for about 4 years / $28 million and see if we can get him locked in at an affordable rate. Whats everyone else think?

TUC isn't here right now, but he told me he wholeheartedly approves of your plan. But he used a lot more words and paragraphs, and with a lot more hyperbole.

Honestly, if Dunn ends up staying the whole year (which if we are in contention he probably will) and puts up an .800+ OPS with 30+ HRs, I would love to sign him to another contract if he can be had on the cheap. Power is at a premium these days and there are not too many LH that hit 30+ HRs.

I'm not even certain Dunn WANTS to keep playing beyond this season. I definitely don't see him being interested in a 4-year deal.

No way he retires this young when he's on pace to hit his 500th HR next year with a shot at 600 if he plays another 3 or 4.

If he has a good season, even a great season, i will enjoy it. But I will not forget about the first 3 seasons.

I'll both enjoy and forget. Because even through the strikeouts and minimal OBP, there was never the indication this guy was simply cashing a check and did not care. He always took interviews and expressed his frustrations and talked of the things he was working on to get better. No...Adam Dunn is a long way from being the scourge poster child of my lifetime's White Sox. For that, it's David Wells (worthless piece of crap both on the field and off). Other nominations (with explanations, please)?

Im not talking about tarring and feathering Dunn on the way out, I just in no way shape or form would be willing to negotiate a deal with him.

Wite, on the other hand, is ready to make him Player-Manager with a blank check

Best case scenario, if he can put things back together you make him a QO at the end of the season, if accepts it you keep him at what will probably be the same salary, if he declines you have the opportunity to add a draft pick. That said, I dont think he finishes the season with the Sox.

No way the Sox make him a QO. He would accept that in a second as no other team would come close to giving him that kind of money and if he rejected, no team would sign him because of the draft pick compensation.

It's still April, and there's no guarantee that Dunn keeps this up all season, but in the hypothetical scenario where he actually puts up a .240/.420/.500 season, then why would you not take him back on a 1-year/$14M deal? It's hard to get guys his age on 1-year deals because they're generally looking to get 3-4 years to cover their decline.

Even so, I don't think if Dunn is hitting .240/.420/.500 in July that he will still be here. He will have very good trade value and despite the nice start, I still think it's unlikely the Sox are in serious contention in July. Too many bullpen issues, and too many hitters (Ramirez, Flowers) that are destined to come back to earth at some point.

You wouldn't because you would be paying him to do it again next year and that is very doubtful at this point. Dunn isn't very good, but he doesn't deserve the hate and boos he has received. He seems to be a good guy, a good teammate and certainly is one of the few White Sox who has run everything out the past 3 years. It's not like he isn't trying. That said, there is no scenerio, even if he keeps this up, do I think the Sox would give him a QO, and there is no way he keeps this up. His OPS is almost 1.100. Soxtalk has removed him from the dead weight list. He is doing exactly what the best case scenerio for him would be. Hopefully, he hits like he did the middle 4 months of last year for the entire season. He'll help win more games, but I'm sure, unless he has his best season with the White Sox, and is willing to play for peanuts next year, he's done with the team at the end of this season at the latest.
