ILMOU
QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 01:16 PM) any improvement on Nate? doesn't sound like it. Ugh, but need to be patient, or he's likely to do something and be gone for the season.

Kyyle23
A Lower back injury for a guy who throws hard like he does is not good. I'm not gonna count on him coming back this season, something is clearly wrong.
flavum
Jones will have out-patient surgery on Monday. They are not expecting this to be a season-long injury.

StillMissOzzie
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) A Lower back injury for a guy who throws hard like he does is not good. I'm not gonna count on him coming back this season, something is clearly wrong. Once you start talking back surgery, you may very well be talking about career-ending, let alone season ending. I for one would be surprised if we see nate Jones throw a pitch this year. SMO
Kyyle23
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/27259534-41...ck-surgery.html It will be about a month before he is able to resume baseball activities, but Sox reliever Nate Jones underwent successful back surgery on Monday, general manager Rick Hahn said. Jones had a microdiscectomy, which is the removal of disc material that is putting pressure on a nerve. Sooooo lets go ahead and forget about Nate for now

Excuse my ignorance but by its very name isn't a microdisectomy for the reason stated pretty much the same as like a herniated disc that is done by microsurgery instead of a scalpel ? ILMOU
The recent words from Jones are good. He's genuinely pain-free for the first time all spring. Should be just a time situation, and they shouldn't rush anything, but I think there's a good chance we see him shortly after the ASB. ptatc
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 10, 2014 -> 12:27 AM) Excuse my ignorance but by its very name isn't a microdisectomy for the reason stated pretty much the same as like a herniated disc that is done by microsurgery instead of a scalpel ? Yes it is. The reason i think this is because the injury was originally diagnosed as hip pain. The most likely reason it would then be re-diagnosed as hip pain coming from the back is a disc herniation. If he may return in 4 weeks it wasn't an open procedure with a fair amount of muscles and fascia incised. So he probably had a partial microdisectomy for a small herniation.
