Jordan4life_2003
Sorry couldnt get the link to work but the story is on chicagosports.com Thank god. Nothing against Cotts. But he shouldn't have been here to begin with. I think it's safe to say the Neal Cotts experiment has FAILED. I just hope this doesn't have a long term effect on him...I'm all for Danny Wright who's been pitchin very well out the pen getting the remianing 5th spot starts... YASNY
So, I believe that makes Danny the 5th starter and Paniagua, Rach or Ginter to fill in Wright's bullpen slot.

Gene Honda Civic
Thank god. Nothing against Cotts. But he shouldn't have been here to begin with. I just hope this doesn't have a long term effect on him...I'm all for Danny Wright who's been pitchin very well out the pen getting the remianing 5th spot starts... I don't know about this one. I agree that cotts has blown his starts in HIGH pressure situations (i.e., first ML start, 4th start @ Yankee stadium). But we've seen what danny has done from the starters spot. It wasn't ver pretty. (0-5) to be exact. He is (1-0) with an ERA 2 points lower than his starters ERA out of the pen. Coming out of the Pen takes a different kind of mindset. I think Danny has shown he has that make-up. And he has shown this year and last he's not a great starter. Last year was the most unimpressive 14 win season i've ever seen. I have figured the 5th spot should only get 4 more starts this year. I think Neal should get the first two of them, assuming there's not another outing like in NY. He should bouince back. He's a tough cookie with some good stuff, but some control problems when he gets nervous. Those next 2 starts should be versus CLE and MIN or BOS. He shouldn't be too nervous about that. I LOVE having DW coming out of the Pen. I'd hate to lose that. I have the confidence in him as a reliever that I've never had in him as a starter. Plus I think he has a real possibility of being our closer of the future. Considering we traded away our top closer prospects and it doesn't look like Koch is ever going to find his stuff again. I think they should give the kid at least another shot versus CLE and then ONLY if you have to go with DW. I think they both can get it done. It's just in thier heads whether they want to or not. Bmr31
I thinks its best right now, but the sox treated Cotts like complete s***. Throw him to the wolves, watch him fail, then send his ass away. YEAH that has to do a lot for his confidence.

You have some valid points here, but I don't think we can afford to give Cotts another shot this year. He has shown a consistant lack of command. I think he's going to be very good. But, he's not ready just yet.

IndySoxFan
i was going to make a bad joke about cotts being replaced by the T-Ball stand that threw the no-hitter at the special olympics.... but i could not make it work.... anyway, cotts needs to go but it is a shame he could not have made more of an impact.... well more of a positive impact.... it seemed to me that cotts was trying to throw around the box... (duh) i think he might have had more success challenging hitters... you know... going after them instead of trying to make the perfect pitch.... oh well... i hope they dont burn his #38 jersey hope to see you next spring good luck

Jordan4life_2003
I'd love to see Cotts up here this time next year. Give him another season in the minors and at triple a mainly...Hopeully he can get his control down. That's the main thing...

Some, with all the talent in the world, never do. Look at Nolan Ryan. He was always wild.

Throw him to the wolves, watch him fail, then send his ass away. YEAH that has to do a lot for his confidence. How'd they treat Cotts like "complete s***"? By giving him the opportunity to pitch in the major leagues? It isn't like he was giving up 5 runs a start at Birmingham. He was pitching lights out. Practically unhittable. He isn't the first player to be given a shot and be sent back, and he won't be the last, for any team. In fact, two of his four starts were very servicable. He'll take something from the experience and be better for it. Many Sox players never saw an inning of AAA ball, including Frank Thomas, Magglio, Buerhle, and the beloved Danny Wright (well, before he was sent down after being thrown to the wolves). I hope that someday I'm treated as poorly.
