Feeky Magee
I wonder if this is the quickest a reliever has ever been designated for assignment after starting the 9th with a 1-run lead. Less than a month.

Less than a month. Maybe Mitchell Boggs with St. Louis. There has to be closers who have been DFA'd during the season.Valverde got DFA'd as the Tigers closer. flavum
I think the best thing about Cleto going is that Sox actually had better options to replace him. They aren't just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.
knightni
Part of me hopes that he gets an option to AAA. There's definitely talent there.

I don't remember what thread but it was a recent one. Here. A lot of this is because Putnam's become so reliable now, and they don't want to risk losing Noesi, because of his potential ability as a starter. They also were able to pile up some experienced veteran depth in AAA in Guerra and Francisco. What they're planning to do with Webb going forward, no idea. IMO I think Webb or maybe even Petricka are lead candidates for the closer role in the future. I think both could be a very good 8th-9th inning when their control is good.
