ILMOU
can't believe I missed this. Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane Tyler Danish is going to be promoted to Class A Winston-Salem tomorrow. He is 3-0 with a 0.71 ERA in seven starts with Class A Kannapolis. 1:55 PM - 14 May 2014 Youngest player in the CL, I believe. A few folks here need to look up the definition of overrated, as I see that being tossed around so loosely. Quite the reverse. You guys might compel me to go all Caulfield-Puig on yo ass, and nobody wants that. Timing is good. Barring setbacks, which are, of course, very, very possible, if not probable, seeing as he's a pitcher, he'll be ready for 2016 - and he'll be our second best arm. But first things first. Futures Game, then a few starts in B'Ham before the shutdown. Edited May 15, 2014 by Stan Bahnsen

Buehrle>Wood
That's why mega threads are bad. Even those last tidbits in the MiL catch all are thread worthy. Nice to see though. He's certainly on the fast track.
Y2Jimmy0
Rob (Lime Rock, CT) Tyler Danish has been impressive so far this year. I know the delivery is far from ideal, but do you think he stays as a starter? Potential # 1 stuff or is that too optimistic? Thanks Klaw (1:50 PM) Reliever for me. Great stuff, but you don't see any MLB starts with that slot or arm swing. Law didn't really like Danish coming out either. Thought he was pegged for the bullpen but many guys think that. I'd agree if we hadn't seen it work with Chris Sale. Maybe his most likely destination is the bullpen, but that's true for 99% of all the pitchers in the minors. I believe he's got a shot. Let's get the lefty version (Medeiros) in this year's draft so he can go for the trifecta. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 15, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) I am cautiously optimistic here. Definitely would like the velocity to return to where it was when he was drafted. I just noticed something in watching his videos again. Compare his most recent Kanny videos with his HS video. He seems to exert himself much more on the HS tape, and relatively looks like he's not even breaking a sweat at Kanny. Gotta believe this is by design. I think this move was done to quickly, I think they should have waited until the first half was over, let the kid pitch in the AS game and then move him up. Let him experience dominating for a while and help build that confidence. Give him the whole second half of the season in A+ in hopes he is ready to start AA next spring as a 20 year old. One other thing to remember is that he's on a 100 inning limit according to reports. At the time of this promotion he'd thrown 40 of those innings. If they waited until the AS game, which I'd assume is more than a month from now, he'd be probably at 75 innings or more and would get basically no time in A+ after a promotion. That could well have fit into why they did this now even if you could argue it's a little soon; they'd rather have him get 60 innings in A+ than something like 20 in a month. Thats fair, I like to have players move forward with the expectation in their mind that they dominate every time out. If they are concerned about an innings limit and he is already half way through his cap for the season then it does make sense.
NorthSideSox72
Given his utter dominance of A-ball, I don't see the problem here. For that matter, I don't think it is a problem if he has the occasional meh outing like he did this time. He WILL struggle at some point, there is no value in pretending otherwise, and a small jump from A to A+ can provide that for him. If he is unable to adapt to that, then he's not going to be a major league pitcher anyway. This is a good plan overall, I think. Let him finish in A+ this year as he hits his inning limit. Bad outings happen, I dont think that one outing is any type of indicator, I just feel that prospects should be handled very conservatively. He is an age appropriate level, and there is no real necessity to push him up. I am all for a jump to A+ at some point this season, though would have preferred it were in the middle of the season. But if as the previous poster said his season IS half over, the move is much more understandable.

Balta1701
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 19, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) I would love to see how is velocity would respond if this scenario were to be played out. He definitely pitched out of the bullpen last season for the exact same reason, to keep his innings down, so it woulnd't be the first time for him. Last season they had him out of the bullpen every 5th day, so they kept him on a normal starting pitcher pattern while still using him in short relief outings. You don't want him to hit his innings cap in July and sit and watch the rest of the season.

I'd rather they just limit every start of his to 4 IP, and keep him on a 5 day schedule, than have him pitch 3 times a week throwing 2 IP or whatever. 20 starts x 4 IP = 80 innings or whatever the remaining magic number is. ILMOU
Bumped. Trying to get my mind off the MLB bullpen with some optimism. From Norris BA Who's Hot: "Tyler Danish, rhp, Winston-Salem (White Sox): Speaking of young guys, Danish is 19 years old and in his first full pro season and is having quite the go of it in high Class A. The sidewinding righty brings a lively fastball that tops out at 93 mph and couples it with a slider and changeup that are both swing-and-miss offerings. The changeup in particular can be deadly to lefthanders when it’s going right. He struck out eight on Sunday while allowing just two hits and and two walks. All of his Ks were swinging, and he had 13 swings and misses over the course of the evening. The strikeouts matched Danish’s high-water mark for the season, and he’s walked more than two in a start just once this year." Was supposedly going to get shut down after 100 innings, but the way he's going, I think they should give him 3 more starts and let him get to ~120. Sets him up for ~150 next season. Urias is definitely one of the best stories in the minors. Between he, Pederson and Seager, Dodgers have some high-end help on the way. beautox
I'm still a firm believer he has the stuff to make it as a starter as he moves up the ladder and he has the frame and projectability to add another tick to his fastball. If he finishes this year with 130IP, i don't see a reason he can't push two levels next year and make it to AAA with the possibility of a cup of coffee in september out of the bullpen for '15. I hope Erik Johnson can get it together and get back to being a projected 3 starter, I wouldn't mind dreaming on one of Montas, Danish or Adams to make the sox rotation in '16. Sale, Johnson, Quintana, Montas/Danish/Adams, Rodon.
Rowand44
As long as he doesn't break, I feel that Danish's stuff profiles him perfectly as a starter.

BaseballNick
Per Rotoworld.com Tyler Danish: White Sox RHP prospect Danish 6 no-hit IP Tyler Danish - S - CWS - Aug. 10 - 10:02 am et White Sox right-handed pitching prospect Tyler Danish threw six no-hit innings for High-A Winston-Salem on Saturday, walking two and striking out five. Danish has not allowed a run over his last three starts, and has been ascendant since the beginning of July, holding batters to a .209/.273/.278 line while striking out 40 over 44 2/3 innings over eight starts. The 2013 second round pick won't turn 20 until mid-September, but he has been dominating a league where the average batter is nearly 23 years old. Danish has the potential to be a solid No. 3 pitcher, and could be another White Sox pitcher who climbs the organizational ladder very quickly. Here's another really nice article from MiLB.com about Danish and his recent success with the Dash.
SoxAce
Best part if that milb article for me. "Ever since the third or fourth start I had here, I struggled, and I sat down with my pitching coach [J.R. Perdew]," he said. "I was frustrated. This was the first time I had to deal with failure and he just let me know this game was still the same game, no matter what the level is. I had to make better pitches. I left balls up. Ever since that talk, it's helped me mentally. I've struggled one or two times, but I've done what I want to do. I think that talk has changed me mentally and helped me big time. "I know this game is a big failure game and I'm glad I went through it at such a young age. To go through it at a level that is going to be challenging. I'm glad I was able to bounce back from it and understand that I'm going to have a couple of bad outings, but the season's not over. It was really huge for me that I got this under my belt."
